Las Vegas

We're staying 2 nights at the Tropicana (towers) in October.Comments? Any better hotel recommendations at a bargain rate for a comfortable place on the strip?

I would imagine the Trop is comparable in quality and price to the Imperial Palace or the Flamingo, and those two properties are in much better locations at center strip, next to Paris, Ballys, Mirage, Bellagio, Harrahs, Caesars & the Venetian.

I would reccommend The Orleans Hotel and Casino. its cheaper then the Tropicana and is arguably one of the best hotels in Las Vegas. For the standard rate you can get a "mini-suite" It's my favourite hotel in Vegas. www.orleanscasino.com

Syl,

It depends on what a bargain is to you and what days of the week. FYI, I would not put the Imperial Palace anywhere near the same catagory as the Flamingo. The Flamingo is a good idea as is Ballys and the Monte Carlo for lower cost nice properties.

I do agree that the Orleans is a good deal but it is off strip.

The Imperial Palace is a dump-- there, I said it. All it has going for it is its location. The restaurants are terrible, the rooms are borderline offensive, it's old and worn-out and creepy. Strike it off your list.

The Trop is fine, though it's south Strip and falling behind in the "hip joint" contest. The Flamingo is even less hip, but it's in a great location and you get a lot for your money. Harrah's is middle-of-the-road in every conceivable way (including location, dead-center Strip), but is another possibility (although it tends to be a bit pricier than it should be given its luxury level). And Bally's is another possibility, though you're then moving a little farther south on the Strip.

The Orleans is a great bargain and a pretty nice place, but it's definitely off-Strip-- and off-South Strip, for that matter. Not the greatest location if Strip access is important (but then again, you can always get a cab).

We have friends that love the Tropicana and stay there frequently. They are big gamblers and they are treated very well by the casino. I, on the other hand, dislike the tropicana for the rooms and the location. But I'm not much of a gambler. I would stay at a more cental location on the strip.

I just got back from a 5 night stay at the Tropicana and I loved it. We stayed in the garden rooms which are supposed to be the oldest ones they have. We were in the 5000 wing and yes the room was a little worn and they didnt have top of the line ammenities, but for the price we paid ($44.00 mid week) it was absolutely a great deal. I would stay there again in a minute.

Do you know which tower you are in? The Paradise Tower is very convenient, directly near the casino and lobby. HOwever, the Island Tower is much more difficult to get to. You must walk through the casino, then down this looooooooong hall/walkway. Could be a little tiresome on a late night.

As far as the location of the Trop, it was perfect. Right across the over pass to Excalibur, where you could get a tram ride to Luxor or Mandalay BAy. Or across the other walkway to MGM< and then NYNY.

I loved the Tropicana and for the value would stay there again in a flash!
