For me it depends on the nature of the trip. If I'm going on an "active" trip such as with a group of friends to a big sporting event, I'll bring it so that I can keep up with news about the event and coordinate with friends. But if it were a relaxing "get away" trip, I know I'd be too tempted to spend too much time surfing the sites I regularly visit at home and not focusing enough on my location (or staying up late checking emails).

I guess SAnParis and I are the dissenters here.
Leave your laptop home. Disconnect from your life at home. You're on an adventure, soak it up. Don't straddle the pond, with part of your attention on London and part of your attention on the place, people, things you left behind.
No DVD? They still make books.

I just got into a big argument a couple of weeks ago w/Rob about this same topic. Of course he has a 2 oz. laptop that does everything including cooking breakfast. lol...I go on vacation to escape all electronic divices including phones & TVs. I'm sure not taking a computer w/me. Actually my wife loves her cell phone, so I try to find places that are 'service free' if you know what I mean. That, however, is becoming more difficult.

Heck, I'll confess to being the biggest techno-phobe on this thread . . .
sometimes I think about trying to talk my wife out of bringing a camera! I sometimes spend too much time looking for a shot instead of just looking.
