Land or Cruise?

Do you travelers prefer land packages or cruises?
We personally do not like cruises. We feel to confined to the ship. Also we feel like we are on a constant schedule. Unable to be on our time frame. Some friends/family say they prefer cruises because they feel you get more for your money. Example- (food, entertainment included in your package). What are your thoughts?

I'm an independent minded traveller, as I suspect the majority of readers of this board are...since people who come here are typically trying to research trips for themselves, etc.
I feel like part of my trip is wasted if I have to follow someone else's itinerary and schedule. Exploring and spontaneity are an integral part of my enjoyment of travel.
But many people find researching for trips to be drudgery, and in some cases to be overwhelming. For those types, the convenience of having someone else do all the work is a godsend.
One exception I've found, though. Exploring the Greek Isles and Turkish coast by cruise ship, particularly the very small, independent type lines (Silversea) can be more efficient than I can arrange myself, and still allows some freedom.

I DO enjoy researching my trips, AND i LOVE to cruise!!

I'm not really into the "touristy" things, so i find out what ports we'll be visiting, and find my own "hidden gems" to go to.

As far as the ship feeling too confining, i (respectfully) disagree. The modern ships today are SO BIG that it takes 3 days just to learn your way around them. Saying that a ship is too confining is like saying you don't like the mall becasue there's not enough shops to choose from. The newer ships are literally a floating city, with almost anything you want on them. I also enjoy not having to worry about whether my meal is going to be good or not (compared to if i went to a local restaurant on a "land only vacation"). On a cruise, if i don't enjoy a dish, i simply ask for a different meal. Also, if there's two things on the menu i like, i ask for them both.

Hey
We love to cruise! It's conveinent and the way to go for my family. We cruise at least once a year. Everything is on the ship, entertainment, aerobics, swimming pools, bars, etc... It's like a hotel resort on water. No need to rent car, pay for dining, look for entertainment, find restaurants, get lost. etc...Everything is at your fingertips! I think cruising is the way to go!!!

Hey
I do not care for cruising. Not for me.
Craps my style. On a contious schedule or else you miss events, or even the boat. Always crowded surrounded by people. Blah!! Food sets out in the sun all day. (dangerous). I had an unfortunate incident on a cruise. Got really ill due to the food I'm sure.
Cruises can be noisy, rocky, and overcrowded. Have to eat with strangers. One can be uncomfortable with this arrangement. They seat you like your in Kindergarden. Shouldn't we have the right to sit where we want? We paid all this money for this vacation and we cannot choose where we want to eat let alone eat with your party in privacy? I know I may be picky, but heh, I'm spending my hard earned money and want to vacation the way I want too...
