Hi desertjoan,

We stayed at Kaibab Lodge in July 2005. Our room was upstairs in a building that had, I think, four rooms.

While the room was certainly basic, everything looked new and neat. There were two double beds, a table with chairs, and the bathroom. There was also a little deck that we enjoyed.

As you probably know, there are no TVs or telephones in the rooms, and there is no cell phone service.

That said, we enjoyed our short stay there. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the lodge is a short, pretty drive from the North Rim park.

We stayed there several years ago and enjoyed it very much. We were in a cabin. Rustic, but fun.

At the Grand Canyon I would not stay anywhere but rimside at Thunderbird Lodge, reservations/register at Bright Angel.

Desertduds,

The Thunderbird Lodge is on the South Rim, is it not?

The Kaibab Lodge where we stayed is just five miles from the North Rim. If there is another on the South Rim, disregard my remarks!

It's pretty isolated and not close to the rim ... you'd have a much better time in one of the cabins on the rim, if you can get a reservation.
