I think the front desk should definitely have asked you if you had a preference!

I'm female, and I've had massages from masseurs and masseuses - good and bad from both. The masseur I had at "unnamed frou-frou spa in California" kept kneading me too hard. Three or four times I said "Dude...can you please not do it so hard? It hurts!" He'd ease up for a sec, then start putting all of his weight into it again. I wanted to cry. There was nothing at all relaxing about that massage, and I hated every minute of it.

I've had some women, on the other hand, who were much more chatty than I like during my massage. Just shut up and rub me!

The best massage I ever had was from a masseur. His name was Paul. I went to him several times for salt scrubs, after which I'd step into the shower and wash the scrub off and then get back on the table and he'd massage me for another hour or so with lotion. Aaahhhh, those were the best massages, and my skin felt like a baby's butt afterwards.

I was either naked or wore those paper paties, and I never for one second felt uncomfortable with him. He was a very skilled masseur, and he was a master at strategically placing the little towels so that nothing ever "popped out". It was amazing. I kept teasing that he was folding little paper swans on my privates.

Unfortunately, he was so good that he got promoted, and the last I heard he works for Aveda teaching others how to give a good massage.

After he left, I went to the person who took his place - a masseuse - and got the same treatment. She kind of creeped me out during the sea salt part of it (a little too close for comfort), but then instead of having me go shower off before the lotion part of it, she grabbed this hose from the ceiling and told me to stand in the middle of the room so she could spray me off. She didn't even give me the option of showering it off myself. So there I am, standing there with nothing but some soggy paper panties, while this lady hosed me off. Uncomfortable and embarassing. I never went back.

Never tried the hot stones thing. Wouldn't mind doing so.

sunnybrook31: I probably shouldn't say this but I really laughed when I read the last part of your post. The image is hilarious.

yea it happens in restaurants quite often too..

The most uncomfortable massage I ever had was at one of the largest massage places in town. They employ probably 20 or so massage therapists. My masseus that day was a new man who was around 25 years old. He was very good looking, romance novel cover kind of good looking. The massage itself was actually really good, it was the aura that was uncomfortable. When I walked in the room, which was dark with a couple candles as is the usual, he had a little altar type thing with a bible laid open. Before he massaged me, he knealed and said some words I didn't quite catch under his breath. Now on the one hand, I was glad I (apparently?) had a christian massage therapist. On the other hand, I was wondering what he was praying would or wouldn't happen. LOL.

Oh gosh, that is a funny ending! It reminds me of the time I went for a mud wrap.

I hadn't thought male/female, and ended up with a youngish man. I was a little taken aback when he asked: "How do you feel about nudity? " Hmmm... His or Mine?! But as described above, he did place little towels very strategically. And I did get to do my own shower ! And ended up with skin like cocoa butter.

I don't think I'd mind a masseur, but like others have said, I just don't find massages relaxing in general. As for doctors, somehow I much prefer same sex (Female) .
