I need a 4-6 day itinerary - can anyone help me out and let me know what is worth seeing in LA. I am willing to rent a car if there are things outside the city worth seeing. Nothing too far out though - 2 hours max.

Oh come on - (hope I don't get in trouble for this) how on earth can anyone give you ANY sort of useful advice w/o more info than that?!

Simple things like:

When is the trip?
What sorts of things do you enjoy?
Just you or a family or couple?
You picked LA for a reason - what are you already planning on seeing/doin?

You know, just the merest of info . . . . .

They don't rent cars in LA, only SUV's and Hummers.

And the only thing 2 hours away is the San Fernando Valley.

Believe it or not some people in CA are actually friendly and helpful. If you want to see anything you will have to rent a car even if you spend most of your time in the city.

Why have you chosen Los Angeles for a vacation without knowing one thing about it?

And it's true-- two hours in any direction from the center of LA and you'll probably STILL BE IN LA. The city is that huge.

Funny thing: Did you know there are websites that detail things to do in given cities? A pretty good one can be found on an obscure website called fodors.com.

I'm going to Paris. Is there anything worth seeing? Could someone put together a 4-6 day itinerary for me? Never mind what my interests are or whether I enjoy museums or not, or whether I have kids with me. After you all make up my itinerary for me, I'll let you know if the work you did was appropriate for me or not.

We're not being rude here, but we at least need to know WHAT might be "worth seeing" to you.

I subscribe to the view that if you can't be helpful at least don't be nasty and critical.
It takes as least as much time and effort to answer a stupid question as to reply and state how stupid and ridiculous someone's question is.

I'm with RBCal on this one, only because this is blackcar1978's first post.

Couldn't we have given him/her a bit more of a courteous introduction to Fodor's, with a few suggestions on how to better frame his/her question?

RBCal, I'll agree there's no reason to be nasty, but whether you agree or not, most of the posts WERE helpful. They are an attempt to HELP blackcar get the information he wants. How can someone know his post isn't working unless someone tells them what they need to post?

First, do a 'search' on here, because whatever you are
asking has been asked before, and with a little digging,
you will find this website to easily be the best
informational website for travel.

That said, what I tell EVERYONE visiting California is,
get off the plane, rent a car, and immediately hit a
drug store or traget/wal-mart type of store and buy
the cheapest foam cooler you can get, $5 should do it,
$3 might even do it.
Next thing is, buy a case of bottled water, or a case
of whatever pop or tea you drink. Then get ice, of course.

Why ?

Because nobody drinks tap water in California, and you will
spend only $4-6 on a CASE of whatever, but if you stop at kwikie-marts
or gas stations, you may well spend $2-3 a bottle for the stuff.
It adds up IN A HURRY, so save yourself a few bucks.

When you check out of your lodging, simply put the cooler by the
ice machine with a note that says 'free cooler', or give it to
someone you see checking in, etc

Wow that's good to know microdal. I should tell my relatives who live in California that "no one" drinks tap water there. They've mistakenly been doing that since the 1960's when they moved there. I've rented apartments for a month at a time in both San Francisco and Los Angeles several times, probably spending a good year total in California over the past 11 years. I too didn't know I wasn't supposed to drink the tap water. I always do and think it's fine. What's more I always ask for tap water in restaurants (yes, even Spago or Asia de Cuba, for example) and no waiter has ever batted an eye, so maybe someone should alert them too. Sure beats running around with a cooler and a bottle in your hand all day.

I have NO idea what microdol is talking about (from a Californian who has drunk several thousand gallons of tap water over the years)

Anyway - we haven't heard back from the OP so still don't have any idea how to help him.
