LA to San Francisco
My wife and I are going to California mid-June. We will be spending 13 days in Huntington Beach (we have booked our rooms there)and then off to San Francisco. We would like to drive the coast and stay half way. Any recommendations? Also, looking for reasonable accommodations in San Fran area? Any suggestions.
Thanks

My family and I are doing the coast trip
San Francisco to LA in July. I suggest doing a text search within the California subject heading. I have looked at postings all the way back to last summer and was able to get a lot of great info. that way. We are spending a night in Pismo Beach (because I want to be right on the ocean) but a number of people have suggested San Luis Obisbo as a nice place to stay. I believe it's at close to the half way point depending on what route you take.
For San Francisco hotels the website Citysearch7.com was helpful to me. We are staying in the marina district because we will have a rental car and a lot of motels there have free parking. We also are traveling with kids. Your options are probably more open if this is not your case.
Enjoy!

John,
There's a famous hotel located in San Luis Obispo called the Madonna Inn. Great place to stay for a night...all of the rooms have a different theme. If you're driving up the coast to San Francisco along Highway 1, you will also want to take the time to stop and visit Hearst Castle. The castle is located around an hour north of San Luis Obispo and offers a number of tours. A very memorable place to visit.

Hi John, we live in L.A and my best friend lives in S.F so I am up there all the time. San Louis Obispo is a great idea but don't stay at the Madonna Inn unless you have a wide open budget! (if you do then go for it). I would suggest you look for other B and B's in the area. Other great places would be Pismo Beach, Carmel or Santa Barbara (my favorite). Each of the above towns has ample tourist info and plenty of B & B's. Good luck and drive safely as you will be driving through the middle of my town!

There are some things you do because the opportunity is there...climging Mt Everest, for one. I would not let a few dollars keep me from staying in the most outlandish room at the Madonna Inn. That experience has given us something to laugh about for the rest of our lives.

I would agree the Madonna Inn provides great laughs in the future--there's no place quite like it. Pismo Beach is a good choice as well as Moonstone Beach in Cambria just south of Hearst Castle and Big Sur. You'll want to prebook at Hearst Castle, if it's your first time, take tour #1. Could you take one day away from Huntington Beach and stay the first night at Santa Barbara, then SLO or Cambria or Pismo? Would make it more relaxing. If you don't stay at Madonna Inn, I would skip SLO and stay on the coast.
