LA - San Diego - Vegas
Please can someone advise me...
I am arriving in LA to see some friends in San Diego and we are then going to Vegas before flying out of LA. My husband has always wanted to do the road trip so we are happy to drive.
What is the drive like from San Diego to Vegas? And again from Vegas to LAX? Which one is nicer or are they both unique? Or should we drive one stint and fly the next?
Your advice would be very much appreicated.

Just did LV- San Diego. It is just Interstate and only in the vicinity of San Diego it looks rather nice. The rest is just boring...Around LS rather busy.
The same for LV-LA, busy Interstate with again around LA lots of traffic.

Being a SD native I think I have driven to LV about 20 times. The drive takes about 5 hours and once you get through the LA area on Interstate 15 it is pretty desolate and boring. But if this your first road trip out to LV it will be fun regardless.
I would drive from SD and fly from LV to LAX. LA traffic can be horrific.

Fantastic. This is what this site is all about.
That's settled then - flight from LV to LAX and driving from SD to Vegas.
Is it much of a muchness when hiring cars out there or are there specific companies that are recommended. Would love to hire a fun car for the journey...

I would not count on walking p and getting flights. You'l pay way more than if you purchase on line.
Southwest Airlines has some great fares and most of their tickets are totally flexible, so you can trade them in for a different flight. Their most expensive fares are refundable for cash.
Do you use kayak.com? Thats a good place to compare both flights and cars. You don't actually buy tickets from them, it just compares them all, then links you to the individual companies or to Expedia or cheaptickets, tec., to buy them there. Make sure you indicate that it will be a one way rental on the car to get accurate prices. Also, Southwest air doesn't show up on Kayak, so go to their website after you see what is available on Kayak. ..
Good luck!
