La Jolla / Coronado

I am going to San Diego for business and will be there a week (next week). However, since I am there to work at a tradeshow I have very little free time during the day. My biggest chunk of time is 1:00 to 7:00 one day (have to be back for a dinner cruise). I am staying at the Marriott at the Marina. I love photography and sightseeing. I had thought I would go to Coronado and maybe Balboa Park on the free afternoon. However, after posting here and doing a little more research on transportation (I won't have a car and don't want to rent one), I think it might be nice to visit La Jolla that day. If I take the Coaster up between 1:00 and 2:00, will that give me enough time to see the main sights (the Cove, Children's Pool, the Coast Walk) and return by 6:30, without being too rushed?

Also, other than the Hotel del Coronado, is there much else of great interest I should try to see in Coronado? Can I easily go over there between 5 and 6 one day and still see what there is to see before dark?

I will probably visit Balboa Park the day I arrive in San Diego, when I should be out of the hotel by 3:30. I know the museums are also open late on Thursdays.

Dan, I'm not a San Diego expert and always have a car when I'm there, but I don't think the Coaster goes to LaJolla. Maybe it's possible to transfer to a bus from another station. Otherwise, your time frame sounds OK to see LaJolla. Once you get to "downtown" things are easy walking distance. Maybe your hotel would know for sure.

Kam's right - the Coaster doesn't have a La Jolla station. There's one in Old Town and San Diego at the main station on Kettner. But the rest are further north along the coast in beach communities such as Carlsbad and Encinitas.

But your hotel might offer a shuttle to La Jolla or atleast be able to suggest the easiest way to get there.

Half a day is plenty for La Jolla, unless you're an avid gallery goer.

The Del is the main attraction on Coronado, and there's not much else to see there. If you're an ice cream fan, stop in at Mootime (there's a branch in the Del, and the main location is on the main strip in town). You should plan to take in a little time on the Del's patio. Lunch there would be ideal.

There's also a great little Mexican near the Hotel Del, but never can I remember the name. Anyone to help?
