Hi, Lucy,

Some of the best star spotting isn't in LA at all, but in the valley areas near the studios. My brother-in-law has seen Jack Nicholson, Stallone, Harry Dean Statton (sp?) and a host of others at, of all places, The Whitsett Pitch and Putt driving range in North Hollywood.
Dupar's Coffee Shop in Studio City is another spot, as is Bob's Big Boy (on Friday nights)in the Universal City area. I regularly see Tim Curry at the Hollywood Farmer's Market on Sunday mornings and have run into David Hyde Pierce at the Silver Lake Mayfair Market. None of these are glamourous spots and you may see someone at a trendy restaurant, but the above are fairly reliable spots. Have fun....

Everyone tells me they always see the stars at the farmer's market -- sounds like a pretty sure thing, and a great place for breakfast.

Several guidebooks have sections on "starspotting" in LA -- Frommer's California book has a particularly good one that tells you which night at which restaurant or club. Stop at a bookstore and take a peek. The 2000 version should be out. It has lots of other good recommendations in it too so it's worth getting anyway.

Lucy,

Lisa's posting refers to the FARMERS" MARKET on Third and Fairfax, a wonderful authentic landmark that I fear is in danger of extinction, so go before it becomes a cineplex. I have spotted celebs there having doughnuts at BOB'S or doing there grocery shopping. As Lisa suggested it is a great place for breakfast and lunch. Some evenings (early) there is music.

Have been thinking about this some more. There's some weeknight at Morton's that is supposed to be great for starspotting/dealmaking -- is it Mondays? Can't remember. Also, the Viper Room was supposed to be the hot spot for a while but don't know if that's still true. And Bar Marmont, Sky Bar, trying to remember where else...or maybe these things change so quickly that if someone like me knows about them, they're already "so five minutes ago."
