Have done it twice. Once we were staying at the Sheraton right in Poipu so we didn't have to drive as it was practically in front of the hotel. The other time we drove over from Princeville and didn't have problems parking in a large field for the activities. Enjoy Kauai - it is a little bit of paradise - actually it is a lot of paradise!

Harry,
Nine days for us! We'll be at the parade too!
We've been to the parade and the food/crafts/music festival once before. We parked a few blocks away on one of the side streets and I don't recall that it was that hard to find a spot. It's a pretty low-key and homegrown event. It's a lot of fun! Be sure to have a fresh, piping hot malasada at the food tent. DELICIOUS.

Are you going to be able to come to the GTG on August 2nd?. Here is the thread:

Auntiemaria, her husband, RichinPA, his wife and my partner and me are all meeting at the Happy Talk Lounge at the Hanalei Bay Resort on the north shore at 5:30 on the 2nd. Drinks, pupus, music, hula and chit-chat will fellow fodorites! Look for the balloon.

Aloha Bill and Shar, Mahalo for your replies. Bill, I did make a note of the GTG and we're trying to make it work. BTW, did you say try "a" malasada? We're bringing a wheelbarrow! <vbg> See you in paradise! Harry

Just got a press release on the event -- here's what's on tap for Saturday 7/30:

We (Koloa Plantation Days) just got confirmation that Dennis and David Kamakahi will be the headliners at the Koloa ball park celebration, Saturday, July 30. They are scheduled to perform at 4:00.

Entry into the ball park is $1; gates open at 10:00; event ends at 5:00. This is the big day for Koloa Plantation Days, with the parade in old Koloa Town starting at 10:00.

There will be lots of food booths, 80 craft vendors, slides, bouncers, rides and crafts activities for keiki, and entertainment from 11:00

The other entertainment: Kasibulan Filipino Dance Company, Ko`olau Trio (Kirby Keough, Kenny Emerson, Pancho Graham), Na Paniolo -- Ni`ihau people singing traditional paniolo songs; Halau Hula o Hali'ileo and Doric Yaris; Tony Silva from "Da Braddahs" and Pipi from FM100; The Blond Boys, and Hijos de Borinquen kachi kachi band.
