KL Westin, OceanPoint, Chesapeake or Cheeca...Help!
Hi, Looking to do 3 romantic relaxing days in the Keys. Want to avoid Key West due to Spring Break. The above mentioned four hotels all center around Islamorada/Key Largo which we thought was a good central point for day trips. Any thoughts on which is the best of those four hotels? Must keep price under 200 a night. Any other hotel recommendations would be great, we are used to staying at nice properties with pools/restaurants/beach within walking distance, etc. Thanks.

We stayed at Ocean Pointe last year and were extremely disappointed. We had stayed there a few years ago and liked it. We found it had gotten very run down and was poorly managed. Our condo had broken floor tiles in the bathroom (a safety hazard), broken vertical shade over slider so that we had to habg blankets for privacy and I could go on. We tried to get things fixed or moved to another unit but neither happened. At check-out, I filled out a complaint form and wrote a detailed letter to the manager when I returned home. Neither was ever even acknowledged. Another gentleman was at the desk complaining about similar problems in his unit. It's really stupid on their part to let such a nice property deteriorate. They have lost our business forever.
Have not stayed in the other hotels so can't be helpful there.

We stayed at the Cheeca in an oceanside room and loved it, though we paid a premium for the location. The property is very large and well-maintained but unless you pay extra the odds are you won't have much of a view. As I recall there's a golf course on the property.

Hi Kara! We have stayed at Cheeca and found it to be quite lovely, if you are on the water, but also a little pricey. However, we did discover the most beautiful, romantic spot right next door called "The Moorings." They are a small grouping of the most beautiful little cottages and rooms in their own private area and beach. We almost died - can't wait to go back at stay there. A REALLY unusual find. They have a website, but I'm not sure of the address. It's worth looking into however. Good luck!

Here's a strong vote for the Chesapeake. We were there in Dec. and loved it. Prices were right at 200 for a suite (we have kids and needed more room) Feel free to e-mail us for best rooms to request(best ocean views) as my wife made a list of the room numbers before we left. When you make reservations, they tell you which room you'll be staying in so it does pay to request one. Most of the rooms and views are excellent, but there is one smaller building with no ocean view.

We also looked at Cheeca, but decided on The Moorings. If it's romance that you are after The Moorings cottages really are perfect! Even though there is no 'on-site' restaurant as such, there are lots of wonderful places to eat within a few minutes walk.
