Kimamom re restaurant in wine country

Kimamom,
Are you out there. Picked this forum because the Oregon coast is your passion. Better late than never, but I finally found out the name of the restaurant in Wine country Calif where the bill totalled over $800 for 4 of us. It was on the outskirts of Yountville(can't remember the name of the small town there)and it is called "La Toque". Yummy and good wines but....Soryy it took so long. Beth.

Hi there Bethie! Here I am! La Toque is in Rutherford, I believe. We haven't been there yet, but I sure would like to try it soon. We just returned from a week on the OC and I'm already planning our next trip in a few weeks, which will include a few days in Portland. Thanks for the response! ***kim*** Where's your next destination?????

HI Kim,
Next big trip will be our cross country trek in June. That will include Portland, Cannon Beach, Astoria, Seaside, Seattle then N. E. to Coeur D'Alene Idaho, Glacier Park, and points Eastward. We are planning, by the way, to stay in Cannon Beach, but do Astoria, and Seaside as well from there. We will have 3 & 1/2 days to do all three. Do you think that is doable? How would you suggest I divide up that time? What's NOT to miss and what do I pass up if time is too short? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Bethie

So you did make it down to the OC then,Kim, for a week? I didn't see a trip report. Where did you hang out down here? Glad to hear people raving about La Toque. Ken Frank's cooking is something else. We had the tasting menu at his La Toque, way back when it was on Sunset in Hollywood and it was the best dinner we've EVER had. Ever. Sounds like he's still got it. What about Rancho Caymus Inn next door? Does it look like a nice place to stay? Let's hope we both get to try it soon!

Hi Winerycat! Yes, we did do the OC for a week. We wanted to spend some quality time with our daughter and opted her out of her swim meet. (That went over real well with her coaches. Oh well, she still got a medal at her meet on Sat. and qualified for a Varsity time to get a patch. She's excited about that!)

We stayed at our house in Astoria while my hubby worked on our beach cottage in Seaside. We had a great time and the cottage is progressing very well.

It was a little rainy, so we hung out at the house and then went out to yummy dinners at night. I posted about some of the meals on Chowhound.com. We did some shopping in Seaside at the outlet malls and Ter Har's and my DD found a really cool salon in Astoria, located in the Baked Alaska building where she got an awesome highlight/cut with beautiful river views.

We also had some fun in Ashland, staying twice at the Plaza instead of "the springs" this time. Had an awesome meal at the Peerlees Hotel one night and hung out at Lithia Park, feeding the ducks. It was a spur of the moment trip.

Bethie, I would love to help you with your upcoming trip. Would you like to start a new thread about that so others can help also? ***kim***

WC: We tried both times to stop at the Chateau Lorane winery, but could never time it right. I heard at the Wine Haus in Seaside that they are selling their winery. Just love their Marachal Foch they produce there!!!

Oh, how funny, Kim! When you said you spent a week in the OC, I assumed you meant Orange County, California, which is what it's known as down here, but after reading your last post I realize that you must mean Oregon Coast! LOL!! So that's why there's no mention of Newport, Laguna, Dana Point, or the swim meet in Long Beach in your report. I wondered how you could be in So. Cal. and Oregon in the same week--even for you, that's quite a stretch! Thanks for the report.

P.S.
Have never been to Chateau Lorane, though I love the beautiful countryside out there and would like to see it. Marechal Foch is one of my favorite wines, when really well-made. Our fave Marechal Foch was made by a tiny winery called Serendipity Cellars in Monmouth, but they stopped production a about 3 years ago. Did you ever get a chance to try it? We were able to get a case of their last MF then, and a few bottles of their New*port Marechal Foch dessert wine and that was it. Would love to try Chateau Lorane's. Have you tried it yet or know of any other good ones?

We actually purchased the Chateau Lorane's MF at The Wine Haus in Seaside and enjoyed it so much we wanted to tour the winery. Maybe this summer we can hit it when we go back in a few weeks. That's funny about the OC. I know there is a show called OC and thought you might mean that, but I sometimes call the Oregon Coast OC.

I think we're off to Cambria for a day trip next week for my BD! Just want to sit on Moonstone Beach and have a nice dinner at The Sow's EAr to celebrate alone with hubby, then do a full family thing later. Should be beautiful over there! ***kim*** No, I'm not NOT telling how old I will be ! LOL We picked up a bottle of Ollallieberry wine in Monterey that would be fun to sip with some Sonoma cheese and crackers while down on the beach.
