Key West in July

Is the temperature in Key West unbearable in July or does the tradewind cool it off?

Also, do you know of a resort that has waterfalls in the swimming pool? Must be an upscale resort.

Thanks

I think the tradewinds cool it off

I've never been in Key West in the middle of the summer but the people I know who've visited then say it's very uncomfortable. It's not only hot, but the humidity is high, making the air thick. Key West isn't really a town of resorts. Being such a tiny island, most hotels are wedged together closely, and don't have much in the way of grounds. I can't remember ever seeing a pool with waterfalls, but I think I remember someone mentioning a waterfall at a B&B. The only place that would qualify as a "resort" would probably be the Casa Marina, because it has tennis courts and a large beach/swimming pool area. Unfortunately, it gets very mixed reviews: some people complain about the large number of loud children at the pool, and others dislike the inconvenience of the location.

Let me first say that I like tropical kinda heat. I like palm trees, hot sand, and ocean breezes. And I love the Keys. But it will be HOT in July. I was there one time in July, and my wife and I were eating breakfast outside at one of the big hotels (can't remember which one) and it was blistering hot. I mean the sun was bearing down on us and I was sweating into my orange juice and it was only 8:00 in the morning. Yikes. I used to always go to the Keys the first week of August (start of lobster season) and it was always HOT. Guaranteed. Plus, rampant and steady humidity. Yes, the ocean breeze can cool it off, but when you're inland (and though it's a small island, you can still be inland) the breeze sorta tapers off some. Now, it may sound like I don't like going there, but that's not the case. I LOVE the Keys. Even in July and August. Have fun. Seriously - have fun!!! It's only heat.

July and August are the hottest months here. In July you are looking at average temps in the day of 90-95 (it never gets above 95 but it may feel like it) and only 10 degrees cooler at night from the high during the day. There is also very little rain during July to give a brief relief from the heat. There is some wind to cool things off but as mentioned not much. I have seen some people think it is fine and I have seen others get taken to the hospital for heat related problems. I guess it all depends on you. I think the Midwest has a much worse summer compared to us here. As far as places with a waterfalls the only one I can think of is the Holiday Inn Beachside.

I went in early June and it was incredibly hot then. It wasn't unbearable yet, but getting there. I would not even think about going in July or August.

I have been to Key West in Dec, Feb, July and Aug and have loved it every time. July is, as has been stated, hot and humid which bothers some people but not my husband or me. We never use a car there and walk everywhere -- just a little slower in the summer months! Key West is much quieter in the summer too!

I went to Key West last August. It was very hot (and humid) but I still had a great time. We stayed at the Key West Hilton and I would definitely recommend it (but no waterfalls). They have a water shuttle that goes to their private island Sunset Key.

I love Key West in the summer!!

I am one of those people that love the heat.

We will also be down in July and can't wait!!

It does help to take it easy and stay full of water while performing any activity. I can usually be found baking in the sun at the pool or beach during the day and just taking it easy at night - lounging in a comfortable bar/restaurant chair - preferably outside if it's not too humid - with a nice, cold virgin daquiri!! Yum!!

Plus, the town is not packed - very nice!!

Enjoy your trip!!

I went to Key West last August (the last week) and it was VERY hot and humid. I was sweating so bad that I had to keep tissues with me to wipe my face constantly (and no, I'm not overweight at all). I guess the locals get used to it because they seemed fine. They kept asking me if I was alright. We still had a great time though. The heat just makes jumping in the pool or jet skiing all the more enticing. We were going to rent bikes to explore, but we decided on mopeds instead because it was so hot. Plus, you're not going to be outside all of the time, are you?

One of the best things you can do in enviroments like that is always carry around bottled water while you walk. Try to drink as much as you can. The humdity can fool you into thinking you are not as dehydrated as you might really be.
