Need hotel help for Key West. We are 2 couples traveling there for the first time over Memorial Day. We would like to be near Old Key West. Can anyone recommend a hotel/cottage that has a suite that can accomodate 2 couples? Don't mind a pull out sofa, but do want private sleeping areas. Thank you.

The Galleon has 2 bedroom condos and it's in a great location. There are lots of B&Bs in Old Town that should fit the bill, too. I haven't had any personal experience with them, but you should get lots of info if you do a search on this board.

Offhand I can think of several B&B's that have two bedroom accomodations. Island City House, Simonton Court, Paradise Inn, and probably Banyan Tree Resort. I'm sure there are more.

My favorite site for Key West information is Key West Paradise. Under the accomodations section there are dozens of places listed, all with links to their respective web sites. Have fun.

thank you for your reply. I have done comprehensive research on the boards but I am just confused and overwhelmed. Our budget is about $275/night total.

Right now, I am debating between The Galleon (1 BR efficiency), Ambrosia House, and Banyan Resorts. Location is really our key here. Any thoughts on these?

I'm confused about the 1 bedroom efficiency at the Galleon. They have "lockout units" that are bedrooms with efficiency kitchens in them. They're very tiny and dark and have no view whatsoever. They're used primarily as a second bedroom addition to a one bedroom condo. If that's the accommodation at the Galleon, I'd urge you NOT to get it. If it's a regular one bedroom condo, they're really nice.

All three of your current choices are in great locations.

I agree that all three locations that you mentioned are good. The Galleon is on the water, but it looks a condo that could be anywhere in the country. Very little tropical ambiance, which is important to me when I'm there.

I've stayed at Ambrosia House. Nice people, very laid back. This was about two years ago, and we found that their continental breakfast started really late, like about 0930. Since we aren't late night folks, this seemed late in the day for breakfast to us. Only a small issue though. Nice pool area.

The Banyan looks really neat from the sidewalk, with all those huge banyan trees and other tropical plants all over the place. Although I've never had the least problem with safety in Key West, I'm not sure I'd want to walk on Whitehead alone at night. Walking to Ambrosia wouldn't bother me in the least. Of course, if you're always in a group, no problem.

Have you tried the Island City House. They have two bedroom suites with kitchens. I am staying there for two weeks next month so will know better after that if they can be recommended

Island City House is very nice and I recommend it. One caveat: it's popular with families as the guest house does accept children. Depending on time of year, rugrats can be everywhere! ;-)

I was searching for something like this a while back and I believe The Garden House, The Chelsea House, The Duval House, The Merlin, and The Seascape Inn all have what you are looking for. Unfortunatly we couldnt take our trip so I can not give a report but all these places seem to have good rates and reviews.

Sid, after much research myself this week we settled on Curry Mansion B&B for our stay Memeorial weekend, coming in from Atlanta.

Theie website is impressive.And they provide a FULL breakfast buffet. One valuable tip I found: don't rely on web rates/call resort/hotel direct. The lady ended up quoting us a daily rate of $160. night-much cheaper than internet price. You guys have a great, lazy visit!

We're staying at Ambrosia next month. (Travelling with an 18-year-old, we wanted sleeping arrangements similar to yours.) It came down to a choice between Ambrosia and the Artist House Villas. Anyone familiar with the Villas? They're about as close to Mallory Square as you can get . . . maybe TOO close. I was afraid they'd be too noisy, being right in back of the Hard Rock Cafe. Otherwise we would've booked there, based on location, layout and price.

Check out Center Court. They offer a 2 bedroom/2 bath house with private pool (Helen's Hideaway) for $308 per night in summer season. Located in Old Town by the Gardens Hotel. Also, I have stayed at Duval House several times. The grounds are lovely, with a nice pool area. It is well located, an easy walk to either end of Duval.

bryarsmom --- we stayed the Curry Mansion a few years back. It is very nice and quiet even though it is just off Duval. For $160 you probably got the smaller queen room. It is smaller but still quaint.
