key west fashion mavens!
My husband and I just booked a week in Key West for the first week in January and are staying at the Hyatt, but my question for all you fashion divas is what is hip, trendy and cool to wear for bar hopping and activities. Also if anybody knows of any cool stores for clothes, shoes and accessories! Thanks bunches!!!!!!!!!!!11

Viv - I still remember obsessing over what clothes to take on my first visit to Key West! And on my second and third trips I continued to take one nice pants outfit. Now I know better! You'll see more shorts, t-shirts and sandals in Key West than anything else. Even in fine (expensive)restaurants there will be lots of people wearing shorts. There's NEVER a reason for a man to have a sports coat and I've never taken a dress, though in the summer lots of women wear sundresses. If I were you, I'd be sure to take a sweater and/or sweatshirt because nights on the water can be chilly. And though it's not likely, it IS possible to have cold weather in January. Basically, just take casual clothes and something warm. If you were going to Miami you'd probably want trendy (make that black) but Key West is very laid-back and not at all fashion conscious.

The most important fashion accessory in Key West is comfortable shoes. You will walk everywhere. I wore sundresses or capri pants most of the time. A previous poster was correct about a sweater. We went in May and I usually took a sweater at night.
As for shopping, just walk around and see what's there. I liked Fresh Produce and Key West Handprint Fabrics for comfortable, "beachy" clothes. Several shops sell sarongs - we saw a lot of people wearing them out at night.
Have fun.

I love going to Key West. I take the most comfortable clothes (Never any pantyhose!!!!) and my bag is such a joy to carry since shorts, t-shirts and a light sweater don't take up too much room. Hyatt crowds generally are a little more dressed-up, but that only lasts about a day in Key West! Roam all the shops in Key West. You'd be surprised by some but everything is interesting!
