Key Largo-Westin recently? other places
I have received a very good rate at the KL Westin but the reviews here on Fodor's are not that great considering this is supposed to be a 4 star place. The comments are several years old. Has anyone any experience there recently? We prefer roomy, airy places (no dark paneling) Other possibility is a condo, Ocean Pointe Suites a few miles further down on the ocean side. Both have pools, both have their own beaches. I have looked at several other places on web and they are either too expensive (Kona Kai) or the rooms seem small (Coconut Palm Inn). Largo Lodge was an old favorite but no pool and maybe that the rooms are too dated for us now.
Anyone have an opinion or info on a cheerful, bright place preferable with a pool. We leave in less than two weeks so I need to make up my mind!!!
Thanks,
Meme

Hi Thanks will check out bidding site.
Aaron: Been to Key West several times and love it, but this time we just want to spend a few nights closer to Miami. We also are spending a few night in South Beach so will have plenty of other things to do beside snorkel and relax...the reason for Key Largo this time.
So any Key Largo recommendations?

We stayed at the Key Largo Marriott last June and had a great time. They have a nice restaurant and bar with entertainment at night. Dive/snorkel trips leave from the hotel. The company did a great job. The beach is small, but the pool was nice and they had hammock swings under cabanans to lounge in. I'd love to go back.

We stayed at the Marriott a while back and liked it. Walked around the Westin and it looked fine but didn't see a room. Have stayed at Ocean Pointe with mixed results. Every unit is individually owned and some are more tired than others but you do have a full kitchen. They are regular condos. Big pool but no atmosphere, just a rectangle and a small, pleasant man made beach. Units come with continental breakfast. IMO, - do NOT stay at the Holiday Inn. No beach, nasty pool, awful rooms.
