Key Largo-Family Lodging for Kayaking trip

I'm looking for suggestions for family lodging (not luxury) with our 10 & 11yr olds. I'd like to enjoy a 3 day weekend in October with our two kayaks. We'd like to go in the back country & visit Pennecamp, maybe make a day trip to Bahai Honda for snorkeling.

I've looked at Key West Hilton but prefer to stay out of high rises.

Suggestions?

Look at http://www.atlanticbayresort.com/

You'll be able to launch from there as well as the Pennekamp trip.

You should also look into kayaking to Indian Key from Robbies Marina in Islamorada.

We spent the day with Garl and enjoyed it very much. If you are looking for a eco-tour of the 'real' Everglades, this is it. We got to see rosette spoonbills, flamingos, bald eagles, lemon shark, crocodile, alligator, etc.

Great day we'll remember for a long, long time.

Where did you end up staying? What else did you do?

We DID stay at the Atlantic Bay you recommeded. It was so nice and quiet, lovely outdoor area. Pretty kayaking right off the property.

We were pleased to discover CHAD's DELI up on the corner. We were able to let the kids enjoy the pool each night while we walked up to the corner and picked up great meals(subs/quesadillas/soups/cookies/etc) to enjoy on our patio with the sunset. Perfect!

Saturday was spent ALL day with Garl's adventure. Sunday we ventured to the local marinas and finally to Pennekamp to explore marina/campgrounds for a future adventure.

Lunch at Henrietta's was a success again! Great food and good service.

Someone recommnded Coconut Bay Resort too. I wanted to drive in and check it out, we didn't get to do that. Next time.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I love Chads -- although usually need two days to eat an entire sandwich. Glad you had a great trip.
