Kelley's Island, Ohio

Our family recently spent a long weekend on Kelley's Island and I wanted to share with all of you this wonderful spot! For many years I have heard of Put In Bay and after some research realized this was not the type of get away we had in mind. We were looking for something more layed back and not a party atmosphere since our children were with us.

Kelley's Island is located on Lake Erie and makes a great get away destination. We drove about 3 hours and arrived in Marblehead, Ohio which is where we took a ferry to Kelley's Island. It cost us 96.00 round trip for the four of us, our vehicle, and 4 bikes. We camped (tent) on Kelley's Island State Park which also had access to a beach. I was surprised when I was making our reservations that there was not much availability. The campground was FULL.

After setting up our camp on Friday evening, we biked to a park where the town was sponsoring a Film Festival which featured two movies on Friday and Saturday.

Saturday we enjoyed the beach, kayaked, and drove the entire island. After driving around the island and admiring the lake, boats and house, we found another wonderful beach that was great for taking in the evening sunset.

It was wonderful sleeping right on Lake Erie an experience like no other!

Truly enjoyed reading your report. We spent a weekend with our adult kids and had a good time. DH and I have been back a few times just for the day. You're brave for camping, the island has black snakes. I know they won't hurt you but I still wouldn't like to be on the ground with them.

cd....yes, I was brave. I am trying to be a little more adventurous. After checking in at the state park I noticed a flyer and warning about the snakes and realized they are afraid of us and are non venomous, I didn't mention the fact the snakes were on the island to either of my daughters. Thank goodness we never saw one, and I kept my eyes wide open (in the lake too).

Also, I wanted to mention we did view the glacial grooves which was pretty interesting.

We did check out the winery but I was not impressed...no samples and very little information about the winery itself...even on the bottles.

Yes, we saw one in the water and one when we visited the glacial grooves which I found to be really interesting.
