Kauai vs Maui?

I'm planning a trip with my S.O. in October. I've been to Maui plenty of times and he's been to Kauai with his family. We can't decide which one to go to. I want to try Kauai but I'm afraid I will get bored. Is 9 days too long? (We do like outdoor activities and I have my scuba certification.) Which one? Maui or Kauai?

Kauai is soooo boring. Since you have been to Maui and he has been to Kauai, go to Sistah Mel's isle of Oahu.

Oahu and the Big Island. 9 days is plenty of time for both.

I's vote for any of the islands except Kauai. NOT putting Kauai down, just not MY cup of tea. You asked for opinions so that's mine.

I loved Kauai for outdoor activities. We stayed for 7 days and would have loved to stay for 9, but it all depends on the person. I'd go back to Kauai in a heartbeat, but would not return to Maui (too touristy).

Actually, I should be fair--Oahu DOES have a lot to offer, so if you are afraid you'll be bored on Kauai, Oahu may be a nice alternative. While there is the hustle & bustle of the city, if you search on this board for what people love about Oahu you will find a lot of idyllic places as well. To me, it offers the best of both worlds. Just something to think about.
