Kauai over July 4th or some other time?
Planning a trip for 2012. Can go anytime, but could stay an extra day if we went during July 4 week. July 4th is on a Weds in 2012. Is it much more crowded in Kauai during July 4th holiday or should I just stick with May or June. Might even consider going over Memorial Day Weekend as well, but wasn't sure if that made any difference on the crowds at that time either.

I was in Kauai for both Memorial Day and July 4th this year, and didn't think either time was particularly crowded. I'd say both are great times to go. July 4th timeframe might be a little nicer if you're interested in getting out on a boat tour of Napali Coast.

One of my fondest memories was spending 4th of July in Hanalei. That night our friends were leaving island so we had pupus and cocktails at Princeville, now the St Regis. They went on with their taxi man to watch fireworks in Lihui on their way to the airport while we spent the evening walking the beach of Hanalei and experiencing what felt like a 100 private parties and bonfires on the beach. The town shuts down and hits the beach. It was great fun with lots of landborn fireworks.
We slept in and when we hit the beach, all the earlybirds had cleaned the whole beach of the nights debauchery. We also got to go to the local canoo clubs fundraising luau which was also a real treat.
