Kauai only...

We are having a dilema!!!My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Kauai. It was our first time in Hawaii. We loved Kauai!! We thought that it was perfect. We are now going back to Hawaii with our in-laws. Our in-laws think 8 or 9 days is too long for one island and they want to go to Oahu for part of the trip. (They haven't been to Hawaii) How should we split up the trip? Would Kauai and Maui be better? Also, any suggestions for a good place to stay for 6 people??

since this trip obviously won't be your honeymoon, maybe some time on Maui or Oahu would be good for all.
If your in-laws are set on seeing Oahu,
what can I say? If not, Maui is great for 1st timers & if you & husband haven't been there, so much the better.
Where to stay depends...6 adults? Budget? ect. For non-honeymooning 4+ groups, a vacation home/condo rental is the way to go in the Islands . There is a ton of info on these boards w/ specific where to stay suggestions.

I think Oahu is a good idea for first timers. Just keep in mind that it is more touristy, faster paced. But lots of variety especailly for 6 people. See some of the history of the Hawaii people (Iolani Palace downtown) and of course Pearl Harbor is a must, Waikiki is famous for a good reason, the beach is very pretty, of course it can be crowded but the people watching is great. The sunset view over Diamond Head is really just like the picture postcards show it. I would recommend that you take this leg of the trip (or the Maui leg if that's your choice) first. Then you can kick into the laid back atmosphere of Kauai.

Oahu defintely 2 nights or 3. Maui 3 nites or 4 , kauai the rest. Really 8-9 days is to little to do 3 islands. So you got a delima.

Thanks for your replies! We were always going to go to two islands, I just wasn't too excited about Oahu, since I loved Kauai so much. I thought Maui and Kauai might be better! But, I have never been to Oahu, so I am still exited!! I think that we will spend 2 or 3 days in Oahu and then a week in Kauai. We are renting a house in Kauai for peach and quiet. So, we don't need much peace and quiet on our short stay in Oahu. Where do you guys recommend that we stay??? Hotel-wise, that is.
Thanks!

aston pacific beach hotel is good, its on the main street that fronts the beach. Some what inexpensive ( mabey $125 or less a nite) and usually they include breakfast buffet ( and buffet is nice) with room. Or if your taste is higher stay at one of the ocean front hotels there are many and ranges from $225. to $350 a nite.

If you go to oahu, most nights they have a free hula show right on the side walk fronting the beach close to aston pacific beach hotel. Its really great it starts at dusk so be near the area and watch the lighting of the tourches in front of all the hotels in waikki and then the show starts. nick
