Kauai lodging -condo.

I am looking for a good two bedroom condo by beach for both north and south side of island. Plan to go in May, and both sides are of interest. thanks

Begin with vacationspot.com (remember to click on availability icon) then go to Hanalei North Shore Properties. There is another agency that was also good and the name escapes me. This is definitely an easy web search. Kauai rents a large number of condos over the Internet. I was there last year and the prices seem to have gone up considerably. Where ever you are make sure it is near attractions you want. If you are in Princeville I would make sure I was at Hanalei Bay Resort, Pua Poa or Sealodge they are all near the special view of Hanalei Bay. Haena properties are about 20 minutes from Hanalei (even though realtors will tell you it is just 5 miles away) too far for me. But maybe not for you as you will be renting on the south side also. Very important to commit to a place early. I was looking in Feb and could not find anything for August in Hanalei. I like Hanalie better than Princeville. Amazing view in Princeville but the beaches of Hanalie I think are nicer. You are certainly doing the vacation right with one place on each end. Too many postings here tell people to go to Poipu but I find it totally unimpressive. I do like how close it is to Waimea Canyon and Alakai Swamp. Great book on Kauai "the ultimate guide book to Kauai" by Andrew Doughtery (sp). There are some amazing hiking links on the web as well; some are listed in a posting titled "Selected Hawaii websites".

We stayed at the Makahuena condos on south shore - very nice. Walking distance to Poipu Beach. Just do a web search for Makahuena - many rental agencies.

Thanks for the great ideas. What about air conditioning...is it needed on south side? If not , is that a problem for someone with allergies?

can't comment on allergies I will say that as long as you are up in Princeville you will not have a problem without airconditioning. I had airconditioning there last summer and I never used it (HBR). This summer in Hanalei and I am concerned but we will see. I don't think these people would alienate business by not having itif there was a need. It is very hard to find condo with it that should tell your something.

You might want to visit www.vrbo.com where you can rent condos right from the owners saving some money. We stayed at Kuhio Shores on the south side. Older but great view and super snorkeling.

Last May I split my vacation between the Princeville Hotel in the North and Waimea Plantation Cottages in the south/west. The Cottages are one or two bedrooms, with full kitchens and also offer a restaurant on premises. The location is quite good because it is at the base of Waimea Canyon/Kokee and just a short drive to Polihale.

Just thought I'd share since we're talking about Kauai. My friend's cousin Ati just opened a B&B on Kauai: www.hawaiian.net/~ati/

Just got back from Kauai last week. We rented a condo at Aston Poipu Kai from Suite Paradise. The condo was beautiful and very large. We asked for and got a two bedroom, two bath condo at the Poipu Sands section of the complex. This area is right next the Hyatt in the Poipu area and adjacent to Shipwreck Beach which is beautiful. We only paid $127 a night and were extremely thrilled with the accommodations. You can check out Suite Paradise on the internet.
