Kauai in October

We are going to Kauai in mid October and we are wondering if it will be rainy on the North shore. Should we stay near Princeville or in Poipu? Also any suggestions for a condo in either area would ne appreciated. We would like to spend no more than $125 a night.
Thanks!

I don't know specifically about Poipu vs Princeville, but there is a great website that has historical weather for many cities. It gives average highs and lows, rainfall, humidity, # of sunny days, for each month of the year.

Kathleen, Summer in the Hawaii travel guides is usually listed as "May - October" and winter is "November - April." When I was on Maui in October, it was definitely summer (90 degrees). I think, at that time of year, I'd just stay in the area that sounded best to me because you're right in the shoulder season where the weather could swing either way. Princeville is so beautiful that a little rain wouldn't bother me, but I love Poipu also. Please e-mail me for condo info if I can help you there. Have a wonderful time!

Dear Kathleen:

My girlfriend and I spent 12 days on Kauai in early November of last year. We stayed at the Marriott which is closer to Poipu. We definitely noticed the difference in rainfall. It seemed to rain for some portion of time almost every day on the north side of the island and almost never near Poipu.

However, the island is so small that when it rains on the north side you can drive to Poipu in 30 - 40 minutes and be in the sunshine.

I prefer the south side of the island due to the central location - closer to more beaches, Waimea Canyon, etc.

Can't help you with the condo.

We will be going back to Kauai in February. It is very quiet and absolutely beautiful

You may want to get a couple of travel books and cross reference their choice and your personal favorites against condos that take Entertainment,Quest, or Encore rates. You can often get condo in your price range with the discount. Call up Marc Resorts and Aston Resorts, they have 800 numbers to get an idea of their properties--they also take discounted rates.

Club Med had a facility in the Princeville Hanalii area a number of years ago. It is one of the few that has ever been closed. The reason it closed was that it rained so much. I have never been to Princeville when it was not cloudy, rainy and/or windy. The place reminds me of the Oregon coast without the cold.
There are a great number of condos in the Poipu area. The Hyatt is a great hotel, one of the best resorts in the world.

We have been t Kauai twice in November... Both times staying in Princeville. We encountered scattered rain showers, usually very early or late, a warm tropical rain...which created created some great rainbows and incredible vegetation.
We stayed in a condo(Pali Ke Kua) overlooking the beach used in Bali Hai...the sunsets were incredible...the condo was clean modern and equipped with everything you would want includeing..stereo, vcr, modern clean kitchen, even beach chairs, and cooler

We lucked into a great rental agent..that we found to be very honest in describing properties. If you are interested, let me know and I will give you their website.
