Only seen both from the outside.
We stayed at Poipu Kai, Manualoha section via Suite Paradise. It was great
I put our last trip on a site, quite a few links there too: www.pspercy.com

We live on the north shore, but have stayed at Prince Kuhio twice -- love the oceanfront location, next door to Beach House, with choice of two beaches on either side of the project for snorkeling or sunning. It's not fancy, but falling asleep to the sound of the surf crashing on the lava right outside the lanai is heavenly...
Poipu Sands is part of the seven-condo Poipu Kai "community" near the Hyatt. Full-on resort, with pools, tennis, etc. Oceanview, but it's a stroll to the nearest beach. Upscale, and pricier.

AuntieMaria - I think you are confusing Prince Kuhio with Kuhio Shores. Kuhio Shores is oceanfront, next door to the Beach House. Prince Kuhio is across the street. Still o good location, but the road does run between it and the ocean.
(We love Kuhio Shores, too, and we're going back there in October!)

We visited Kauai for 1 week in October of 2002. I recommend asking if your choice of accomodations has air conditioning. We stayed at a beautiful upscale property, assumed it had air conditioning, and it did not. It was in the low 90s and we suffered. This was a RCI timeshare property. The Princeville Resort is absolutely beautiful. We had dinner at sunset outside and the view is incredible.
