Kauai and Maui Honeymoon

I am leaving Saturday for my honeymoon. We have 5 days in Kauai at the Hyatt and 6 days in Makena at the Maui Prince. I am looking for diving, snorkeling, helicopter, dining, and beach recommendations. Any advice?

Bruce, I strongly recommend the helicopter tour in Kauai. It is spectacular. Also, on Kauai do the Napali Coast in the Zodiac boats. There is a dive operator in Poipu named Bubbles Below in think. There are lots in Maui, the one I recall, is Mike Severns Dive Shop. Supposedly the best diving in Maui is back of Molokini and Lanai. As far as dining, Roy's in Poipu and Kahana, The Pacific Cafe on both islands, The Hyatt on Kauai has 2 real good restuarants. The Beach House in Poipu. In Maui also try Hailemaile Gen'l Store, Mama's Fish House, Joe's Grill. You won't go wrong at any of the above and there are lots more. The concierge will have menus and they are good at reviews and recommendations.
You asked a lot of questions- I hope this helps a little. e-mail for more questions.

Bruce,

Luckily you're staying near the best beach on all of Maui (perhaps my favorite of the entire island chain)"Big Beach". This a wide and long sandy beach with good beginner boogie boarding and bodysurfing. Great photo op at sunset. I have taken local award winning photos here at sunset. On Kauai I prefer the seclusion of the beaches on the north shore. You may find yourseleves completely alone on a beach such as Larson's or many others. These beaches will require a short (but sometime steep) hike and often a slight detour off the paved road (but no 4wd necessary). Believe me these are unforgetable places. Larson's has okay snorkeling but the water is shallow in most spots. Good snorkleing on Kauai can be found at everyone's favorite Tunnels beach but I prefer Hideaways. It's less crowded offers more shade for reading/relaxing between swims. Pick up the "Ultimate Guide to Kauai" and simply follow whatever they say.Dining my vote goes for Roy's on either Maui or Kauai. The seared Ahi with wasabi sauce is awesome. Also other great local fresh fish such as Ono. Other good places on Kauai Whaler's Brewpub, Roadrunner Cafe, Zelo's, for local atomospher Hanalei Gourmet.

Sorry for the multiple postings but the first has my email incorrect.

if you have any specific questions feel free to email me at

Since I am writing this I will tell a couple of my other favorite places.

For lunch on Maui I like the Hula Grill. Its very casual and prices are pretty reasonable for lunch especially by Hawaii standards. Also good place for viewing sunsets on Kauai the Princeville Resort, and Kee Beach both along the north shore. Have fun
