When I was 6 years old my family embarked on a car trip from the Western coast of the U.S.A. all the way to Saudi Arabia. It took us about 2 months stopping at all the major cities on the way. It was extremely fun and educational as a child, however I have no idea how much planing went into this and the cost involved. I believe my father had a book with a title like "driving through Europe" or something like that. Hope this helps. You can e-mail me for specific questions.

I've always dreamed of riding my horse from West coast to East coast (USA) but should have done that when I was younger! The American Automobile Association is something you should look into joining. For $29 a year or so you get towing, discounts at hotels, guidebooks, triplanners and I know they have sister affiliations in Europe. They would, I know, make your trip much more enjoyable, safer and easier. They are on the internet. Just use your web browser to locate them. or call operator for a 1/800 number. Let us know if you embark on this trip!

Oh, one more thing- go to www.eurotrip.com- click on Web links on the left side of the page, then click on automobile/driving. A list of links comes up. For driving thru Europe the book by Patty and David Campbell is excellent.

This is not all that crazy, altho once you leave N.America and Euorpe I think it gets dicey - both in terms of roads, as well as politics. There is no easy answer - but if I were you I would go the library - or get on the internet to your local library catalogue. And I would look for books and articles on the subject. It has been done. In the earlier driving days there were in fact a couple of races. At the Harrah's Auto Museum in Reno, Nevada it seems to me there is at least one car that was used for such an endeavor.
So - start with the historic literature, and then see if you can geo-politically, not to mention other practicalities, figure it out.
There is also some kind of club for people who have been to every country in the world - and they may have info on this.
Even if you never do it all, the reading, the dreaming and the parts you will do will be great fun - or funny in retrospect, depending on the situation!
