Kauai & Maui

Hello, never been in Hawaii before and I would like to go either kauai or maui or both... but my budget will only be $5k... i've read posts here and some say much more than what I have..

what you think?

details:
only $5K 2 people starting from LAX-Hawaii and back
I have 10 days in october ....
condo is good I love to cook but also like to dine out from time to time..
ocean view is good but can settle for something nice but never bad service or dirty anything..
car would be a great treat too...

can settle for one island if 10 days is not too long for just one...

is it possible? I'm not extremely picky but also don't want to just waist time and money in something that is going to be a desaster!...

thanks for all your help and time!..

Hello Simon,
I think I can help you get to both islands for 5000 or under. Let me do some research for you. I am a travel agent and have sent alot of couples to Hawaii for less than 5000. Can you give me some solid dates? Email me with more details so I can price this for you.
Hope to hear from you soon

Simon,

Your budget sounds reasonable. Interisland flights run about $60 each way - so they don't represent a major expense in terms of your total budget. I would think with 10 days and your budget you would be able to do two islands. If you do a search on this forum you will find many earlier posts about travel on Maui and Kauai. There is a wide range of prices for hotels/B&B/condos on both islands - from $100ish per night to $400+ per night. Same with a rental cars (which you will need for both islands). All of the major rental car companies operate on both islands (Dollar, Hertz, etc.). Last time I was on Maui our rental car was only $30 or so per day.

I hope this helps. Enjoy your trip.

You can totally do 10 days in Hawaii for $5000 and stay at some good hotels while doing it. I'm planning a trip myself and just looked at the catalogue for some hotel prices to see if your trip was possible. Maui prices that I see include Outrigger at $609 per person for 5 nights; Prince $601; Kea Lani $754; Marriott $719. Then on Kauai: Radisson $537 per person for 5 nights; Marriott $727; Hanalei Bay $480. By the way, all of these prices also include the rental car.

I think your best bet is to put together a package with someone who does a heavy volume of Hawaii travel. You can usually get a good idea of who does this by checking the ads in the Sunday travel section of your area's major newspaper.

Good luck.

Simon, You should have no trouble putting together a package for far less than 5K for 2 from LAX. I do many from the midwest for less and using nice hotels. Not the $500 a night ones, but very nice. The airlines all have packages and there are many tour companies that will put together as much or little as you like beginning with basic air and hotel. That is usually the best way to go unless you find a super air special. Stop by a travel agency and ask for some brochures from airlines, Classic Vacations, Funjet, etc. I am also a travel agent but I don't use my name as all I want is to pass on information (and many times gain some) not try to make sales. Have a wonderful trip. As you look more and have more questions just post here and I'm sure you'll get quite a bit of good info.
