Kapalua vs. Wailea

That really depends on what you like to do...If you plan to go on dive trips, sunset cruises and the like, then probably Kapalua is better because it's closer to the Lahaina harbor. Although Kihei (which is near Wailea) also has a boat launch, but it's much smaller. If you like to golf, then I hear that both places are gems. I don't play so I can't help you there. I believe, The Golf Villas are directly on the course so if that is a plus for you, you've got it made.
Both areas are comparable in luxury - although most people think of Kapalua being better (IMHO, that's only b/c Kapalua has been around longer and originally had the luxury hotels, like the Ritz - now, Wailea seems grander to me with the Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons). If you like nightlife, you will want to be near Lahaina but be forewarned that Kapalua is about 45 min to an hour away from there.
In all honesty, I would pick Wailea of the two ...but then I'm biased, I grew up there.

Hi,
I agree, that it depends on what you like. I have stayed in both Kapalua & Wailea. I preferred Kapalua. Wailea was a bit too secluded for me. We had a difficult finding places to eat, unless you like to dine in the hotels. Lahaina is where all the restaurants are. Have a great time. May is the perfect time to go!
