Just got back from Vegas
Got nothing to say...
What happens there stays there!
Just kidding, stayed at Bally's for the first time, really liked it. Very large rooms, friendly staff.
Played lots of poker at Mandalay, Luxor, Excalibur and Flamingo. Up and down, finished up a little. BJ and misc games at Bally's, Paris, others. Watched the Lakers/Pistons Sunday at Caesars.
Did the buffet at Harrahs, liked that real well. Saw the Scintas at Rio and loved it. Highly recommended. Got a 2 for 1 deal on the show.
No special meals, just ate as time perimtted and an outing eving with my wifes company.
Not much detail I know but those are the highlights. Pretty gambling intensive. Did go into the Imperial Palace to check out the celebrity BJ dealers. Stupid and silly, couldn't wait to leave.
Construction continues, the strip is always busy, Vegas moves rapidly toward more adult, less children stuff (great idea IMHO), etc., etc.
I will be glad to give more detail if you are interested, just ask.

Ani- Currently, there's a new hotel being built across from the Fashion Show Mall (a little south of where the Desert Inn used to be). This is the new Steve Wynn resort- he was going to call it La Reve, but I think he might have changed the name.
The Venetian is also expanding right across the street. They've knocked down all the little shops and hotels right across from the Treasure Island to make room for a new tower.
Ceaser's Palace is under perpetual construction- they're working on the south side that borders Flamingo. I believe most of the front is open again, though.
The Bellagio is also adding a new tower, but it's on the west side of the "complex" and is not much of an impact to travel or city views. Half of the top level of the self-park garage is unusable, though.
I can't think of any other construction offhand, but I know there's always road work being done on the highway and surrounding areas. The airport is also being expanded and rennovated, but it looked like most of the inconvenience would be limited to baggage claim only.
Iceeu2- The monorail was supposed to open sometime in July, but they said on the news last night that mechanical and computer problems would probably push that date further out. The good news is that they're testing empty cars along the track- it's quite cool to see!

Celebrity Dealers=
Bad impersonators of: Elvis, Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, Janet Jackson, Tina Turner, Ray Charles (dealing blackjack??) Some of the above is speculation on who they were supposed to be. It's a freak show at best.
jbee is right, Bellagio adding 900 some rooms and Caesars 600 some plus some kind of entranceway. Half the luggage carousels at McCarren are closed and under construction.
I had a view of the monorail from my room and saw the testing of cars at all hours of the day and night. Most people there say July would be aggressive. The signs say summer of 2004. Looks like there are several trains based on the variety of paint jobs that I saw.
PS That would be an evening outing with my wifes company.

I played in tourneys at Mandalay and Luxor. I wanted to at Orleans but the time was never right. Mandalay has 10AM with registration starting at 7AM. I got there at 7:35 and got one of the last 3 seats...only 30 people allowed. Luxor is Noon and one later in the evening except weekends it is 10AM. Registration is 8:30, there was a line. They take 61 people so it is not critical to be there at 8:30. No weekend tourneys at Mandalay. $25-30 entrance, no rebuys. Limit for the first hour, no limit after that. I never made it to the end but people say it is over in less than 2 hours.
All the places have low limit hold em. 2-4,6. Excalibur has 1-3 as well. I did not even think about a rating since I never played where I was staying..dumb maybe, just didn't think. Excalibur provides players a free meal in the poker room at 4:30. Small buffet that you could have dinner at but better as a snack. All have very good cocktail service.
I really liked Flamingo, smallest of the ones I was in. 2-4, 4-8 Hold Em and 1-5 Stud. Non smoking room. All the others will deal whatever stakes you want up to no limit. Mandalay may be non smoking as well, don't remember. Luxor and Excalibur have limited smoking and I was not bothered by that. If you are very sensitive, it's up to you.
Hope that helps,

To placeu2: Could you tell us a little more about the Venetian construction? Will that be another tower like the new Venezia? Or are you talking about a completely new hotel? I can just imagine how long a walk it will be, given that the Venezia already feels like miles away!
As for the monorail, there are testing requirements that they have to meet. It has to run something like 30 days continuously without incident before they can open it to the public. Hey, who cares about the delay--better safe than sorry. I read somewhere that they're now targeting late summer, whenever that is.

Judy- I believe they're building a freestanding tower (and experience), similar to THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay. I'm sure it will be somehow connected to the main building, but I think they want it to feel separate. Bellagio's tower is built the same way, so it seems to be the new trend!

cayman,
Sorry for the delay but here goes....
2 for 1's are common in mags, etc but most exclude Friday and Saturday. I got non restrictive ones from a showgirl (side benefit) that was promoting Harrah's players card outside Harrahs on the strip. They actually have a ticket booth set up outside in their newish bazar/bar/live music area.
If the girls are not outside, I would go up to the booth or the players club sign up and just ask. They gave me several plus other promotions for additional shows and food discounts.
