Just back from the Finger lakes Region!! WOW!! Highly recommend!!

Jyst back from the most relaxing weekend in the last 5 years!! I can't believe it took my husband and I this long to discover this most gorgeous region. Hospitable, beautiful, relaxing, fun; can't say enough!! We stayed at the Lakehouse B&B, a restored Victorian lakehouse, huge porch, remote location (quiet!), walk to the Seneca lake on a wooded path, Dixie, the owner, A Southern lady that does hospitality like only Southerners can, cooks the most sumptuous breakfast, bakes the best cranberry muffins I ever had.

Plenty of tourist info and wine trails. Pick a sunny weekend and be ready to relax and have fun!!

Hi Maira, I've always been curious about that area of NY. Can I ask how much per night your B&B cost? Just curious how it compares to the Maine coast B&Bs.

Maira: Is there a website for the Lakehouse B&B ... can't seem to find it on the web.

The price was $107/tax included for a double, very spacious room. One of the websites is http://www.linkny.com/lakehousebandb/ (I believed her e-mail is posted there).

The B&B is in the west side of Seneca Lake and the area is surrounded by lakes, no matter which road you drive, you always have a lake view. The wineries are fabulous. One my favorite things at this B&B is that Dixie leaves a freshly brewed pot of coffee and just-baked muffins (cranberry/banana/peach) outside your door at 8am every morning so you don't have the face the world, until you are really ready! Around 9:30am she serves breakfast on the porch and it was always a sumptuous, delicious breakfast; nothing fancy just plain, good home-cooked breakfast (her cranbery pancakes were out of this world!). Can't wait to return!

Thanks Maira - Do you have any recommendation for a specific room there? Did the rooms have private baths?

Two rooms have private baths. We stayed in one of them, Marie Room, downstairs. Spacious, king size bed, with ample sofa, beautiful bathroom, very comfortable room.

Sharon, as far as dining recommendations, the RED NEWT restaurant was superb. Service, food was great. It is located on the east side of Seneca Lake, by the Chateau Lafayette Winery. Definitely worth a visit if looking for nice ambience and great food. A deck overlooking a vineyard is the perfect setting for a great food experience.
