Just back from Florida. Thanks to all

I would like to thank everybody who answered my questions about Florida on this forum.
We were well prepared.

We had a good time and laughed a lot. The American are very friendly to the tourists. In the shops, the restaurants, they ask: "How are you today, Where are you from?", and they answer "Very nice, Wondrefull" and more things like that. We know they don't really mean what they say, but it was "very nice" to be talked to like that.(Very different from Europe)

I would also thank the people who wrote about the famous "palmetto bug". I looked forward to see one. The last night I went to the kitchen and yes, finally, there it was. and it was a big one. We had a lot of fun.

To all of you who live in Florida: you have a beautiful country: Key West, the Everglades, Disney, KSC... We could not see your whole country in 14 days, so we'll probably go back to see the Westshore. It was fantastic.
Even the thunderstorms around Miami couldn't care us.

The hardest thing was the temperature. it was very, very hot outside, but wihout that it wouldn't be Florida...

Glad you had a good time and hope you return. If you want to take all the palmetto bugs back with you, we would not mind.

Martine, we do mean it when we ask you how you are doing & where are you from! If you had come further up the state you would have even heard "How ya'll doing?" That's just the way we are in the south.

You are right though, it is very different from how they do things in Europe. My experience is that you have to invest a little bit of yourself in a conversation with Europeans before you earn their trust. That's ok, it makes you slow down & enjoy your trip.

Glad you came & had fun, hope you come back to visit again real soon.

Jeff, I am from Belgium (where the people speak Dutch and French)

Nancy,I am glad to read that all the sympathy of the American was not "baked air" (= litteral translating of like we say it).You are right , we are more closed, play more a waiting game. You have a bigger country and a bigger mouth. In fact everything is big in the US. The meals in the restaurants, the bottles of coke, the jerry-cans with milk, the refrigerators, even the laundromates...
We will certainly go back. There is maybe not so much hystory to see as in Europe, but there is much more fun.

Martine,
It's funny how different languages have such similar phrases and sayings. You say "baked air" , we say "hot air". Same thing.

Ned, I think we had a little taste of Las Vegas at International Drive (Orlando).
