JFK Shower Facilities
Does anyone know if there are shower facilities at JFK? We have a red-eye into JFK and a 12-hour layover before boarding another red-eye for our continuing journey. It would help us wake up and feel better if we could shower before spending the day in the City and then taking our next flight.
If no facilities, any other suggestions?
Thanks for your help!

I think your best bet would be a day room rate at one of the airport hotels. There is a spa now at JFK, but it offers massages, manicures/pedicures, facials, not showers.
http://xpresspa.com/airportspa.html
Virgin, BA and Jet Blue also have spas for their passengers (on Virgin ane BA I think you must be First or upper class to use them) but again, not sure they have showers.
I guess another option would be to find a health club in the city that you could join for the day that would have showers. By doing a websearch I found
The Manhattan Plaza Health Club
Address: 482 West 43rd Street at 10th Ave.
Phone: 212-563-7001.
Getting There:A,C,E to 42nd St.
Pool Type: Rooftop pool with retractable glass roof.
Cost25 day passes are available (includes use of gym and whirlpool).
Hours: Weekdays from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Weekends from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Overview: Four-lane lap pool has a separate alcove for kids.
Assuming you don't have to drag a lot of luggage with you to the city, take the AirTrain to the E train and get out at 42 st/Port Authority. It's 2 blocks from there. Manhattan Plaza is an apt. tower.

Depending on who you're flying and your fare class you may have club access, if not you may be able to buy a day pass.
For example, the AA Admirals Clubs at JFK have showers. If your status/fare type, etc don't give you access, you can buy a day pass when flying AA for $75 for 1 person with guest.
Check to see what club facilites are available with the airline you are traveling.
A hotel at JFK is another good option for a 12 hour layover, particularly as it also gives you a place to stash your luggage which you may or may not be ables to check thru depending on your flight details...

With a redeye and a 12 hour layover, I highly suggest you get a day room at one of the JFK airport hotels and pass on spending the day in Manhattan.
It is next to impossible to get a good nights sleep on a redeye.
I would check into the hotel, rent a movie, take naps, order pizza or room service and rest up before my flight. I take it your second flight is also overnight?

Thanks for the suggestions.
We thought about a day room at an airport hotel but they wouldn't confirm availability or if they would discount the rack rate until we arrive. That may be what we end up doing though.
The health club is a good idea but we don't want to drag our bags around with us.
I'll check in to the spas and see if they would work for us.
There is a baggage storage facility at the airport for about $10 for the day which we reconfirmed was still open so we have a place to leave the bags.
I know that resting is probably the best for us but it's only our second time in NY and we want to take a walk through the Park and visit Jacques Torres' chocolate shop!

i agree with gotravel...reconsider. you loose so much time going in and out of manhattan. for instance...1 hour to nyc, 1 hour back to airport + 2 hours before departure? = 8 hours. i would just get a hotel even close to the aiport. rest and have room service and keep your sanity.
