Hi, as someone who lived in jamaica, I would seriously consider an all inclusive resort. I know they can be a drag, but if you are insistant on JA that is the only way. The country is NOT safe. As a tourist you WILL be harassed by everyone. Food is amazingly expensive, and not wonderful, and yes the beaches are beautiful, but that is no fun when the vendors follow you out into the water. Transportation is spotty at best and if you do decide to rent a car, odds are good that the one you want will not be available, even w/ a confirmation # and all that. That says nothing of the terrible state of the roads, or the maniac/kamikazi truck drivers. I have visited several other islands in the carribean, any of the Virgins, St Martin, Aruba, or Martinique would be a million times more pleasent. But, if you insist on going, go all-inclusive, and make sure they have an airport shuttle.
