Jacksonville to Savannah
My wife and I are flying into Jacksonville then driving to Savannah, for a long weekend in Feb. Any suggestions on things to see. I'm realy into history and my wife love's scenic drive's. Info on place's to stay, eat, and hang out at would also be helpful.
Thanks,
Mike

Well, you probably won't have the time and the weather might be a too little blustery, but there's Cumberland Island. You take a boat out to a (relatively) undeveloped island, which has the ruins of the Carnegie mansion and wild horses and a great, broad beach. It's where JFK JR got married. Very pretty. But it takes a day to do it. So, you're probably wondering why I replied. Ah, well. Have fun.

For anyone else with more time, Cumberland Island is a wonderful day trip, as Capt. Kirk says. Mansion is crumbling now, giving it even more of an auroa of mystery and romance. Did you see the little line of old rusting cars too...Studebakers and what have you JT? The hint is there of life in a different era.
There are vast stretches of totally undeveloped beaches, pristine sand dunes, maritime forest. It's a great trip.
Ferry leaves from St. Mary's. One from Fernandina Beach brings you to the one inn Greystone, reservations required. Love of solitude is as well. Tres cher.

I realize this is a very old thread but...I am flying to JAX in Aug and driving to Hilton Head from there. (Was going to fly into Savannah but plans changed). Anyway, would be interested in comments about Darien, GA as a place to overnite on the way between JAX and HH.
