As it looks now, we will be there for 6 days and 7 nights. We are thinking of spending all our time in Jackson/GT or 4 days in Jackson/GT with 2 days in Yellowstone? Perhaps the lower 8 as I believe they call it? I recognize we will not even begin to make a dent in the spectacular offerings of the area, but one thing I've learned in my travels is that sometimes by doing everything, you see and enjoy nothing. Thoughts?

If this is your first time to the area then for sure spend at least a couple of days in Y-stone. I would personally split it 2-3 days in GT, the rest in Y-stone, but I *really* enjoyed the two summers I spent working in Y-stone.

Thanks, Bill - I went ahead and posted a separate thread as this issue is obviously a little further down the planning than my original question of whether to go to Jackson Hole or Big Sky - though I hope to make it to BS at some point! I simply don't want us to get to overwhelmed and so exhausted trying to see everything. I know there is too much good stuff for one trip! Also, many of the threads I've read have been pretty negative about Mammoth - these days - people returning saying they are really disappointed and sounding as if they would focus on other parts of Yellowstone? We were considering focusing on the lower part of the figure 8, as I've heard it termed...

WOW!! Can you all imagine what it would cost us if we had to pay someone for the free info we get on Fodor's forums?
Pupchic's thoughts in regard to attempting to cram so much in that you lose out on quality experiences anywhere,is good to remember.

The information is amazing! I posted my first trip report recently from a small venture to the Adirondacks and will do one upon returning from Quebec City. I also try to post when people are going to areas where I have good knowledge to share. Hopefully, these are ways to "repay" people for their kindnesses to me. It was nice to hear back where someone had taken and appreciated some of my suggestions. In some cases one never knows for sure someone's taste etc so I love the idea of making someone's trip a bit better as folks are doing for me!

And we are definitely focusing now on GTNP and the lower 8 of Yellowstone. We have hotels, car and plane tix so now focusing on trails, places to eat etc. Lots of helpful information people have provided on my related thread and in their own trip reports. In the next couple of weeks, I'm really going to download it to my brain and hone in on the first timer goodies. Truthfully, I know that it will be AMAZING no matter what we do in a day...Thanks again everyone!
