Jack,
According to info found on webpage, the 'shootout' occurs every summer evening at 7pm in the town square. Thanks for posting as we also will be in JH end of the summer and I forgot about this! Found a good website you may want to check:

i just returned from jackson hole last saturday. the shootout was between 6:00 and 6:15 every night except Sunday. They perform a different scene every night so you see a different shootout each evening. jackson hole was a lot of fun. don't miss white water rafting the bar T covered wagon supper and the Gunbarrel testaurant. also the wildlife museum was wonderful.

Just wanted to mention it is much more then a "shootout". As implied in the above post, a different sceen every night. The one I saw lasted a good 20 minutes, the stagecoach rolled into town, then the bandits, then the sherif, etc. It was a lot of fun, do try to catch it when you visit Jasckson Hole.

Visited the area in Mid July. The native Jackson people liked to be referred to as Jackson and not Jackson Hole. The town square where the shootout occurs is really unusual with huge archways made of thousands of elk antlers. These archways are on all the street corners of the park area. The antlers are collected every year after the elk shed them at the elk refuge in the Jackson area. The shootout draws a large crowd. The show is cute (a little corny, but cute). Hope you enjoy the area.
