J.W. Marriott: What others are in this vicinity?

Hi:

I should have included this in my earlier post about Easter services. Several years ago while we stayed at the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Avenue. I seem to recall loving the location, within walking distance to the White House and The Mall. However, they are now pricier than I care to pay. Any other recommendations in that general vicinity? How is the Marriott at the Metro Center. Is that near the JW? (My sense of direction is poor...sorry and thanks).

I likd the Marriott metro Center just fine. The location is certainly very convenient, being on teh same block as the entrance to the Metro station where several lines cross.

For handy maps of DC that show the locations of attractions and hotels, go to www.stationmasters.com .

It's just a couple of from the JW. Not that much farther out of the way -- several blocks. There's also a Hyatt connected to the same Metro stop (Metro Center).

The JW is tough to beat for location. Another option might be the Hilton Garden Inn at Franklin Square -- just a few blocks up 14th from the JW.

Here's a map showing all the hotels in that area.

Marriott Metro Center is a good, solid choice.

Check , too, if the Hotel Washington is in your price range.

I also like the Hilton Garden Inn for a less expensive option - its ;ocation right on the blue/orange line is very conveient to getting to the Mall if you don't care to walk.

ALSO, consider the Courtyard Marriott at Gallery Place (and the Monaco if they have specials that will bring it into price range). That area is also an easy walk to the Mall and the green/yellow line from Gallery Place to the Archives station (one stop) is also good if you didn't feel like walking.

Avoid the Harrington unless pinching pennies is your top priority. It's dirt cheap and you get what you pay for. Althought the location, of course, is good - the rooms are another story.
