It's a Good Thing I'm Not Going Anywhere

More than a month ago we mailed in renewals for our passports. Both checks cleared rapidly. When I check for passport status, mine shows it is processing but my wife's shows no information available. Calling the Passport Office phone number just gets a message to call another time. I wonder how long we should wait before really trying to find out what's holding hers up.

Just me, but I'd call now about your wife's application.

Did you do USPS tracking when you mailed? My app was mailed to I-forget-where in Texas, and confirmation of delivery gave me a date to start the timer. Turnaround was 10-11 weeks without any expedited service. I had registered an email for updates, but I never received any message. I still haven't received my old/cancelled passport.

The applications were sent priority mail with automatic tracking, showing very quick delivery. Calling doesn't work since the answering bot says too busy call later. I already set up their email notifications, none so far.

I checked the website just now. No news. The website refers me to the phone number which says they are too busy and use the website. I'm glad we decided to wait to make any plans.

Some people have received help by contacting their local state representative. Perhaps you could try that?

Jean, please let us know if you get it back. Am slightly horrified at the idea of not getting it back.

My rep is the infamous liar, Anthony Devolder (George Santos). Not a practical option for us in the Third Congressional District.

I'd keep calling at different times of the day. I don't think you need to panic for another month, but you might get through.

Yeah, I do want my old passport back to add to my collection, but I'm not going to fret about it. I assume it will eventually arrive and have no idea how to follow up if it doesn't...

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I just got through to the telephone number given on the website. The bad news is that the telephone site says status questions can only be addressed on the website. Boy, am I glad we don't have tickets to go anywhere.

When I did my weekly status check on line, both of us now are listed as "shipped." Mrs. P's was never listed as in process. The automatic email status notification system never notified us of anything. I'll believe them when I see the passports that are supposed to arrive today.

I did a thread on getting a new passport and I did need it-we were leaving for London in May. I was able to do my new passport online in January (I think they’ve stopped offering that service) and it was received and then sat for 6 or 7 weeks. I did change my mailing to expedited and voila it showed up around 8-9 weeks after it was initially received. I was very stressed it wasn’t going to make it in time after reading how inundated they were with pent up demand after Covid. I was also told don’t bother calling-wait times could be hours and hours. Anyway once it said it was shipped it came very quickly.

They both arrived today in my mailbox. 10 weeks, no expediting.

Old passport received today... Just about 4 months after renewal application was mailed. I didn't request expedited service anywhere in the process.
