Itinerary for Maine

My husband and I will be spending 5 days in Maine the first week of October. We're starting in Kennebunkport, then Portland and Bar Harbor. We want to see Acadia National Park. We're thinking of flying into Portland and out of Bangor. Does that make sense? Also, any ideas on where to stay in Portland and Bar Harbor. We're staying at White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport. Also, any ideas of good restaurants will also be appreciated. You've helped me in the past...don't let me down! Thanks.

Yes, flying into PWM and out of BGR makes a lot of sense, if you can get a decent airfare home from BGR at such short notice.

I'd spend a night between Kennebunk and Bar Harbor, maybe Camden or Belfast area...then settle in Bar Harbor. Maybe take a day trip one afternoon to see some foliage inland. With just 5 days, I wouldn't waste one in Portland.

We enjoyed the BayView in Bar Harbor, small and friendly. www.barharbor.com/bayview

P.S. Hertz probably has the best one-way car rates.

Thankyou for your suggestions. What about Greenville? How far is it from Bangor?

We will be at the White Barn Inn the second week of Oct. You are in for a real treat. In Bar Harbor we like the Bar Harbor Inn. Had a nice meal at Testa's in BH.
We fly into Boston, Logan, because we get a direct non stop flight out of LAX.

Belfast is a wonderful town. The Twilight Cafe is a great restaurant/art gallery. And Chase's Daily is a farmer-owned cafe that sell beautiful organic fruits and veggies and incredible in-house baked goods. They serve breakfast too and it looks amazing. There are great restaurants all over Maine. Hard to go wrong.

Greenville is about a 2 hour drive from Bangor....in October many stretches of the drive from Bar Harbor to Greenville should be just gorgeous....hope you have time for a boat ride on Moosehead Lake.
