itinerary change

Well, my husband nixed flying to Nome, so back to the drawing board. My husband definitely wants to go salmon fishing (is any one area better than another) How does this sound:

Day 1 - drive to Talkeetna from Anchorage (we get into Anchorage late at night so I'm not counting it) Take a summit flight and maybe fishing (2 nights)

Day 3 - Denali for 2 nights

Day 5 - Back to Anchorage 1 night or can I drive from Denali to Hope area in one day?

Day 6 - Horseback riding and maybe fly fishing (Angle 45 Adventure) 2 nights (stay in Hope or Coopers Landing)

Day 8 - Seward - day trip on boat, Kayaking one day and fishing one day (3/4 nights)

At this point I'd like to go to the Skagway area stay for 2 nights rent and maybe take a ferry to and from Juneau and drive back to Anchorage, stopping in Whitehorse and I guess at least one other place. Is this doable by car or would I be better off taking the train, flying or am I trying to do to much. I have 16 days, not including flying and spending the last day in Anchorage sightseeing.

Your last paragraph is not clear. Do you want to drive from Juno to Anchorage. Hmm! You know this is not possible

Oops, me too. I meant that I would round trip from Skagway to Juneau and back and then drive/train back to Anchorage.

I'd be more tempted to take the ferry over to Haines from Skagway (or up from Juneau) and drive that way up to Anchorage. I found Whitehorse and that entire drive too much and not very interesting.

Thanks for the tip. What about getting from Seward or Anchorage over to Skagway? I'll be in Seward on the 8th day and need to get to the Skagway area. What would you suggest? I've heard that some of the car rentals are not allowing their cars on ferries. If so, this really makes a difference.

There are no trains Anchorage - Skagway and it is a LONG way via car, and even longer via ferry. Research routes via the Alaska Marine highway site. There aren't a lot of crossings to Seward, so your only option may be driving? Frankly you don't have enough time if you are looking to do all that ferrying back and forth to Juneau etc. I too agree- the drive Whitehorse- Fairbanks is the least scenic driving, if going Tol- Glennallen, Anchorage, better scenery. But long endless driving.
