Island Vacation
My family for a while now has wanted to go to Hawaii. We are considering going the year of 2001, because this year we already planned another vacation. But when we were talking to some people that have been there, they said it is not that much a place that has a lot of attractions for families. Does anyone know of any other islands that are sort of tropical that are in the ocean, more for families with lots of attractions and things to do? Thanks.

I would disagree strongly with your source...there are a multitude of activities for families in Hawaii. Are there any garish theme parks? No. (And thank goodness for that). Hiking, biking, diving/snorkelling, historical tours, national park tours, beach activities.
As for other island destinations, you won't find much in this hemisphere that offers a boatload of 'attractions' for families beyond what you'll find in Hawaii. Various Caribbean islands offer the same array of outdoor activities. Many are plagued by considerably more crime than Hawaii. Economic conditions, occasional racial stress issues, areas of poverty, and less developed infrastructure are other disadvantages versus Hawaii.
If there's a better island destination for families, I don't know what it would be, and I've visited most in the Caribbean. Good luck.

I have never been to Hawaii or Sanibel but based on what I know about Sanibel it seems like a very good family destination as well.
I have become very fascinated with Hawaii and over the last few months or so my heart and mind have been there more than where I actually live, so I think I should qualify for 'honorary Hawaiian citizenship'
;o)
