Island Hopping in Hawaii
I am going to Hawaii in October for my honeymoon and wondering how people travel from island to island? Are there boats you can take or do you have to take an airplane?
Also, if anyone has any tips on a really romantic resort on any of the islands, please let me know
We are still looking before finalizing our plans...Thank you!

It looks like we are going to stay on the Big Island, Maui, Kauai and Oahu. We would like to avoid flying between islands as it seems like more of a hassle going from airport to airport.... does anyone know of any boat companies that could get us around? I've looked on the internet and can't find any so I'm not even sure if they exist....

The flying isn't bad at all. We went from Maui to Oahu, and our flight was just 20 minutes.
As far as resorts, I would recommend somewhere in Kapalua or Wailea in Maui.
In Oahu, I would highly recommed the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki or the Marriott on the North Shore of the island. The North Shore is beautiful.

Beginning in early 2007, the Hawaii Super-ferry will provide daily inter-island ferry service to Oahu, Maui and Kauai. The estimated cost is $42-$70 each way. In addition to carrying 900 passengers, the 385-foot ferry will also carry 282 vehicles and travel up to 45 mph. Daily service to the Island of Hawaii begins in 2009. Details at HawaiiSuperFerry web site (article posted in today's San Diego Union).

If you look at the schedule closely you will see that many of the interisland flights go through Honolulu. There are very few flights, especially to Kauai that go directly.
To avoid this you could start by taking a direct flight to Maui. Then from Maui find a direct flight to the BI. Then go to Oahu and from Oahu fly to Kauai last.
Besides Aloha and Hawaiian there is also Island Air. Check all availabel flights before you determine your lodging.

Aloha
My husband and I went to Hawaii last year. We flew first non-stop from Dallas to Maui and stayed 6 nights (5 at Napili Kai and i at Hotel Hana Maui). We then flew nonstop to Kauai on Hwaiian Air and stayed 5 nights (2 at Grand Hyatt and 3 at Hanalie Colony Resort on the north shore). We then flew nonstop to Honalulu for 2 ngihts staying at the RAdisson Prince Kuhio then flew Home.
I so if you pick the right airline with the right connections, the right order of islands, etc. you can avoid going through
Honalulu.
As for most romantic I would have to say Hands down the most romantic hotel on Maui is the Hotel Hana Maui up in remote Hana. Wow you stay in small cottage (no high risees anywhere) with hot tubs out on the huge deck. The cottages are decorted like someones home but without TV or radio. IT is a very quiet beautifuland romantic environement.
On Kaui I would say the Grand Hyatt and Princeville are the most romantic hotels and Hanalie Colony was very romantic. The views from Hanali colony and the the fact that they are right on the beach is amazing.
On Oahu I think the Kahala is the most romantic and it is a 10 min. drive from busy noisy Waikiki.
We ahve a full trip report and pictures of everything I have talked about just email me at [email protected] adn I will send you the link.
