Islamorada Where not to stay!!!
We recently booked the Chesapeake Resort in Islamorada. Actually I followed a recommendation from this site. What a mistake.
For anyone thinking of staying here don't. The place has not been redone since the seventies I would quess. The rooms were dirty, smelly and falling apart. Theyn tried to hide the stench by putting air freshner in the old air conditioner. The bathroom had mold growing on the tile. The real catch was when we inquired to the whereabouts of the fitness center. We were told the fitness center was temporarily located beside the tennis courts. What we found were 3 rusted out bikes in a Tiki hut totally outside. Who wants to workout in 85 degrees with humidity to match.
This resort is totally misrepresented in it's brochure, touting itself as a 5 star resort. The real killer is the price!!! With tax $282.00 per night. You've got to be kidding!!! Needless to say we were out of there the next day. I have never stayed in such a dump. Apparently the resort was just taken over by new ownership who are in the process of redoing. Maybe they need to close while they do this!!!

We spent one night at Chesapeake Resort about five years ago. Paid less than $100.00 since the place was being renovated at that time. Our room was lovely. Nice pastel furnishings and a nice ocean view. Certainly didn't date from the 70's.

I don't blame you.....might break out in a sweat. Were all the rooms bad or were you unlucky?I've heard only good things about the Chesapeake in the past. It's funny a lot of people like the fact that the Keys have the flavor of the fifties, its part of the charm.
