Is There enough time to fit in Yosemtie?
August 6-9 Santa Barbara for a wedding.
Sunday the 10 till Friday the 16(Return Flight)on the Road..Do the coastal route
to Carmel/Monteray we want to take our time
and relax and see the sites of the coast, but
we would also like to see Yosemtie. Is it possible to do the coastal Route then go inland to Yosemtie and have enought time to
enjoy both? We have no Reservations other than in Santa Barbara as we like to travel
at our leisure. WE are open to suggeations!
Thanks.

With 5 or 6 days it would be possible to do both, but I don't think you would have the relaxing experience you are looking for. Also, at this point, you would be hard pressed to find reservations in or near Yosemite. You might be able to get some last minute cancelations, but I don't know that I would bank on that.
Yosemite is an incredible place and I definitely recommend going there, but with the time you have, I think you would short change yourself if you tried to do both.

IMO I would skip Yosemite and concentrate on the coast. I say this as a "coastal" person !!!
AND geting a place to stay near Yosemite could be impossible, very crowded in summer and really need 2-3 days to do justice to Yosemite.
the whole California coast this time of year is awesone--especially Big Sur area..
Good luck

I think it's worthwhile to at least SEE if you can get last minute cancellations for a reservation, but I wouldn't have a heart attack trying to get one.
If you can get a reservation, I'd say do it. This would allow you a couple of days in Yosemite, which gives you an okay look at this amazing place.
The inland route is boring and there's no reason to stop on the way back down south.

I'd take Hwy 1 north, 156 east, 101 north, 152 east. From there, if you are going through the Arch Rock entrance (west), take 59 to Merced, 140 to the park. If you are going through Oakhurst (south entrance), continue on 152 east to Hwy 99 south. There is a road which connects to Hwy 41 north.
It sounds a lot more complicated than it is.

We spent 2 nights in Yosemite and then went onto Monterey. We stayed at the south entrance at the Tenaya Lodge. To provide directions we'd need to know what entrance would be your destination. BTW I think you can certainly do 3 days on the coast after Santa Babara and then a few days in Yosemite. It would totally be worth it. It will definitely be hot in Yosemite in August though. Nice after the cool of the coast!
