Mega Bus leaves from Hampton if you can get there from Va Beach.

Amtrak bus @ 7AM and 215PM daily to connect to the train from Newport News. $50pp to DC less any discount you qualify for.

Sally: Where does the Mega Bus leave from in Hampton, and arrive in DC?

Tom: Where does the Amtrak bus leave from in VB? Is it a transition two young (inexperienced traveler) teens could make?

Amtrak's website says the VB pickup point for the bus is 19th St. and Pacific Ave. which is practically ocean front. I'd assume it's a street boarding stop and not a station with services. Newport News is a station, a very small one with one track so it won't be hard to catch the train to DC or pick up the bus to return to VB.

How young and inexperienced are the travelers?

The Megabus service from Hampton to DC is fairly new. Price sounds great but it leaves from somewhere in downtown Hampton which won't be easy to get to from VB by public transport.

You can buy your AMTRAK tickets by calling 1 800 USA RAIL. Just tell Julie you want to talk to an agent. The agent will tell you exactly where to catch the bus. They will mail you the tickets if you call at least a week before your trip.
