Is the Celine Dion show a hit?

From what I understand her show opened last night at Caesers. Any reviews out there?

I watched some of it on TV-it sure looks slick! And she has done some serious training on her dancing. I've never seen her dance so much and she was pretty good! I am not huge fan of hers (great talent but find her phony and overdone) but I was pretty impressed by what I saw.

Based on ticket sales, it certainly has all the makings of a hit! I couldn't get tickets (except for scalper's prices) after trying for more than a week but finally bought some on ebay.com for April. I'll let you know after I see it!

The folks on the Vegas boards are tearing it to pieces, even Celine fans and PPE shareholders are disappointed. Hopefully the Review-Journal will put out a report today. I say it flops, long-term. At $80k per show just for Celine, I don't think it will be a good return on investment.

I watched the show last night, thought Celine sounded great, but looks terrible. Her dance moves and awkwayd, she dressed like a little boy for a few of the numbers, and she makes these wacky over exageratted motions and facial expressions. They had her do some pelvic thrust gyration dance moves but I find nothing about her sexy. Dragone did a good job with the sets but anyone who thinks this will be Cirque with Celine will be greatly disappointed. I was excited when I saw the previews but the show was just awkward in many ways. I hope it works out but I would be shocked if it really lasts 3 years.

Loki, you forgot about her hair! IMHO, she should have left it long and brown, this new look doesn't suit her. I also agree about the dance moves etc. The number where she was flying was hilarious.

I agree, and I'm a "fan" of her work. The haircut and boyish costuming was most unattractive, and the choreography was unsettling... Sexy moves with men, but her looking boyish. Plus, what were all those guys doing bolting across the stage at wierd intervals?!

I hope it gets better. My 9 year old daughter and I watched the show on TV last night. My daughter is a huge fan, but thought Celine looked awful with the short hair, unattractive costumes, and dorky dance moves. I had to agree with her. The short hair makes her nose look bigger.

Have to agree - I thought the show was awful. She needs to go back to the long hair - short hair made her look old and she is way too skinny. Her voice is awesome, but thought the choice of songs was poor. Was not impressed with the background goings-on. Cirque? Didn't look like that to me. I don't think I would pay to see this show, unless it gets much better. Maybe after feedback they will change some things.

Since the show was only about 45 minutes last night (accounting for the commercials and behind the scenes stuff) I'm assuming that there is probably an additional hour or more that we didn't see. Probably most of the Cirque stuff was omitted in order to focus on Celine for the TV special. I thought the show, particularly the staging and effects, were entertaining and I would probably see it if I were in town. It's my understanding Ceasar's will get no profits from the ticket sales, that all goes to the performers, adverstising, staging, etc. They are counting on the extra revenues from gambling, food, and shopping to make it a profitable venture for the hotel.

The tv audience only saw parts of the show and I'm sure we didn't get a real feel for it. That being said, I have to agree with many of the other posts here. The short hair has got to go, as does the pants/suspenders outfit. The whole show needs to be sexed up a bit. Even with that, though, I find it very difficult to watch her facial expressions and body movements without cringing or laughing.

I, too, watched on tv and was not impressed. I thought the first outfit she was wearing (red) was hideous!!! I can't believe she will keep that in the show once she sees the tape.

The best seats are $200, plus $18 per ticket "convenience charge" if you order through Ticketmaster -- which I think is the only way to get tickets unless you are able to buy them in person. That is just way too much $$ for an "okay" experience (IMHO).

Funniest thing is, her shoes fell off in the middle of the act, maybe that's a sign:

Hate her hair. Short hair usually makes one look perky. She just looked older.

I was very disappointed. Funny comment heard here at work from a male counterpart "when she sang that Stevie Wonder song with the lyric-when I was just a nappy haired boy" or something along those lines, he said he LOST IT! Celine can not even begin to know what that was like.

I kept flipping back and forth HOPING it would get better. SHE is not sexy at all. She looked very awkward. She does it best...standing and singing ballads. Those wink and point moves at audience members were corny/cheezy looking. I wanted to throw up.

I appreciate her music and wonderful voice--when it is her songs. Even her rendition of America the Beautiful last year was good. BUT the other stuff has to go.

AND the short hair...WHERE to even start. She has been looking so nice in those car commercials and then THIS! UGH

The outtakes...were not amusing. They did not make her look cute or attractive at all. I can imagine she worked hard. BUT it still doesn't make her look like a natural dancer.

BEFORE the show--I thought I would like to go-- after that "preview"...those thoughts are far far behind me.

I'm not a fan of Celine Dion but I'd just like to say that I think it's weird that almost all of your comments are about her hair and clothing. Very strange.

Why is it weird John? Her hair and clothes are part of the package.

Her new do is not flattering. She is too tall and thin and her face is too angular to wear her hair that short. And the color just does not look right with her skin tones. She looked much better before. Her dancing looked forced. You can't make a dancer out of someone who is just so darn gangly no matter how hard you try. As for seeing her show live I think I will pass.

Was those "costumes," or did she just get back from shopping the strip in street-clothes?

I had to laugh when I saw the Oprah special the day before. Celine was giving Oprah a tour of her new house in Las Vegas, and kept going on about how "normal" their (Celine, her husband and son)life is now. She was saying how the new house is only one story, with 3 bedrooms, and then she proceeded to introduce Oprah to her butler, chef, chauffeur, housekeepers, etc. She offered Oprah a glass of ice tea, and (keeping in mind they were actually in the kitchen, why she couldn't have gotten it herself, I don't know) turned to the chef and said, "Chef Jean-Jacques, would you get Oprah a glass of iced tea, please?" Yeah, that's a normal life, alright! :^)

well who cares about having a "normal" house when you have a 2,500 sq foot dressing room. That is bigger than my house right now!
