If you're in Texas now, what about taking a weekend trip to Washington if you don't have to work over the weekend? Go to kayak.com to look for flights. Or go to site59.com to see if there are last minute packages for air/hotel.
Do you know about jetblue.com? Good for New Orleans to NYC, NYC to Seattle or LA (for LA they fly to Long Beach).
