Is Maui for newly weds and nearly deads?
I have read a lot of Maui (and other Hawaiian Island) trip reports and while they are very interesting, the average poster appears to be on the older side. Guessing from the activities and interests, the majority of people appear to be in there fifties and sixties or older. There also appears to be a second (somewhat) younger crowd consisting of parents in thier late thirties and forties with kids. And finally there are a fair number of honeymooners. But there appears to be very few young singles in their 20's and virtually no young singles in the party age bracket of 18 to 25.
This leads me to ask: Is Hawaii (especially Maui) a place that is mainly of interest to the older generation, that is those whose idea of a big night out is to saunter down to the shave ice stand and be in bed by 9pm?

Well now, Mr. Cruise, if you're looking for a Big Night Out to party w/the singles crowd, you'll need to stick to Waikiki. I am quite sure that none of the other islands would be up to your standards and it would be a real drag to waste so much time avoiding the Others.
I would hazard a guess that very few "young singles in the party age bracket of 18 to 25" can afford a vacation to Hawaii, although some might take one-way trips.
I do hear that Florida is fun in the spring and it would certainly fit your criteria.

Actually, you're right gone2maui (my initial reaction was a bit knee-jerk, eh?) Almost every Cali kid I know has gone to Hawaii at least once and it's a regular trek for the surfers. For the younger set lzacruisin's talking about, though, the parents often foot the bill. I'm sure it's true about them being at the beach, too. They've probably never heard of Fodor.
The biggest bottom line on the nightlife, though, has little to do with age. The islands are naturally and culturally daytime places. Most people come for the sand & surf not the New York/Las Vegas/New Orleans atmosphere.

I live in the Bay Area and have lived here for 20 years. Yes, we all call San Francisco "the City." However, many people I know also call California "Cali" sometimes. I have to admit that it's the first time I've ever used it, (mainly 'cause I always abbreviate things in posts), having no idea I would get such a backlash!
By the way, maybe I was just being sensitive yesterday, but am I the only one who felt like lzacruisin was criticizing everyone over the age of 25? I'm only in my 30's, but he made me feel like an old hag!

well, gotta speak up to say that I was born and raised in SO Cal, Cali or whatever else I happen to call it at the time I'm typing. I actually like "Cali"...maybe since I'm from the old school generation of that LL Cool J song. I don't see any problem with using it. Of course I know we all have a right to our opinions, but hopefully you can bear it when I use it

We're in our mid-twenties (and not honeymooners), and we had fun. But then again I don't know how the nightlife is because we were in bed by 10pm most nights to get up early to go snorkelling.
Personally, I think that you can party anytime when you're at home, I'd rather take advantage of the natural beauty. But then again I'm not single.
The nightlife in Lahaina must not be that bad because I read that Jennifer Love Hewitt goes to bars in Lahaina when she's in Maui (I'm saying this because I saw her at the Sheraton when were there).
I didn't feel that it was all retired/honeymooners, actually I thought that there were too many teenagers!! (although maybe not such a bad thing for you
).

Izacrusin,
If you choose Maui and you choose to Party, be very careful of drinking and driving. The Maui police are very strict on this policy. Most of the hotels won't put up with any underage stuff either. (partying in your room)If you are under 25 then you can't rent a car anyway, so we will be safe on the roads.
Honolulu is geared more towards partying, but the cops really crack down there too. They have a lot of responsible tourists to take care of.
Hawaii is not about partying and getting drunk. Someday when you are one of us "Nearly Deads" (I am early 40's w/o kids) you will see what the real Hawaii is about and you will understand it too.

There are some pretty goddam presumptuous people on this forum.
Fivestar, what gives you the idea that I don?t understand what the real Hawaii is about and who said anything about drinking?
Bonniebroad, it sounds like you are one of the nearly deads. If you can?t address the question asked then keep quiet.
Sap, I wasn?t criticizing anybody. But others sure felt a need to criticize (and lecture). ?The bottom line on nightlife has little to do with age? (great advice, thanks)
The odd person like Janny did provide advice (thanks).
From the responses I have determined that Hawaii does in fact appear to be for the ?nearly (brain) dead?.

Izacruisin: I think you are being a little too sensitive here. Your topic stated newly wed or nearly dead and your first line of your message speaks about "older side (50's & 60's). So who were you refering to with your nearly dead statement?
I think if your topic had been less offensive like "What is the average age of tourist on Maui?" or "What's on Maui for the Single 18-25 age bracket"
It was just your first impression you gave to posters.
When you say "young singles in the party age bracket of 18-25" it is assumed that drinking would be involved (maybe wrongfully). Don't take offense - it was only a kind warning not to drink and drive.
All of these posters are very helpful to people looking for a great vacation. Ease up alittle.
