Is it worth going to Yellowstone in mid-March?

Hi folks! I am from Brazil and I am planning a trip to the U.S. and I have the chance to visit the Yellowstone Natl' Park in March. I would be going with my wife and 2 small kids (3 & 1 year old). Is it worth going during this time of the year or would it be too cold? Are there many visitors during this time of the year? Would it be a better idea to choose a different location? I always wanted to visit Yellowstone and now I have the chance (got free tickets due to saved mileage) but I am worried about the weather. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

cchean, I saw your earlier post asking this question. Activity on this forum is slower on the weekends so you might have to wait a bit to get some replies from the experts (and I'm not one...visited YS for the first time last June and loved it).

Have you looked at the National Park Service website for information? Here's the url:

http://www.nps.gov/yell/home.htm

This page addresses road openings in spring: http://www.nps.gov/yell/planvisit/or...l/roadopen.htm Dates are mostly April and May and even then are subject to unpredictable weather.

Bottom line: for me I'd probably not visit this trip with kids as young as yours. OTOH if you aren't going to be back and really want to see the place, go for it. It's spectacular.

Meanwhile, hope some more informed posters see your question.

The only way I would suggest going in March is if you were wanting a snowmobile trip and obviously with small children, that is out. The only way you can get around in the park is by snowmobile or snow coach and you won't be able to see or do most things people go to Yellowstone to see as the whole park will be well covered in snow.

Hi cchean. I don't think visiting with small children that time of year would be a very good plan. It is beautiful and interesting, but as other posters have noted it will still be very heavily snowed in. You might consider going to Zion or the Grand Canyon, instead.
